Aloha Fellow Go players,
I know your out there, improving your games at KGS, dragon Go Server, or at Hawaii Ki in, Hawaii Go Club or Oahu Go Club or maybe even at Windward Chess & Go Club.
We had a few new players join this summer, but some have not met as we all do not seen to be able to come on the same date. We just added a few players some or here just for the summer, others just arrived due to military assignment or like Kyle have been reassigned back to the mainland. Of course then we have Nick who graduated form Penn and flew to Hawaii and learn Go and that other game we will not mention and its not chess. And he too return to the mainland with a promise to return.
I have yet to master Go and am struggling as I try to promote Go via various venue's and Internet. We had no Go tournament scheduled as few have asked for a tournament. So come on done to the clubs on Monday or Wednesday and lets talk about improving our games as well as playing.
I normally bring 3 to 4 Go boards, but not always the first one at the club, so please do bring a Go board so your do not have to wait for me, I am always the last to leave so we'll always have a go board at the end for sure. I will donating two more chess board to Starbucks as the other two have lost pieces, and need replacement. I would donate a go to Starbucks, but would probably lose most of the stones within a week.
Also on Wednesday the Windward Chess & Go Club continues to meet at Kailua District Park, and so will be moving across the street to Windward MAll not in center stage area, but in the new Border's Books store. we have have some strong supporters who have fought for us to remain at Windward Mall in some fashion via "Rep. Cynthia Thielen" who has been our best supporter to keep at Windward Mall. We originally only play chess but since we been at Kailua District Park we been playing Go as well, when we have players interested in teaching and playing Go. So for those that say where is the go players I say the club's are here where are the Go players that say there are no Go players in Hawaii's. You may pick chess along the way, but if its helps us grow Go then what harm is it to learn chess! After all we all say chess is simpler than Go right!
PS: I can always use a few more assistants as I can not be everywhere at the same time, and as you have noted my Go game is not as good as it should be. So help us grown more go players by putting a little PR time at your local go clubs!
I like sailing, hiking, walking, and other things too, but you will always find at these two clubs and others teaching either chess or go. So do your part to promote the game of your choice, otherwise you will keep asking where are the go players and the shodan's and grandmaster's in Hawaii?
In March 2010 to Sept 2010 I will backpacking the Appalachian Trail I know its a few years away, so I hope to find some assistants that will keep all the clubs running while i gone few years down the road. I know this planning ahead, well its all part of planning ahead in both chess & go as well and life!
Always be prepare if you expect to do well in chess, go or backpacking or whatever your interest. So if you see me walking with a backpack you'll now know why! I'll be practicing for my 2174 mile hike and future adventure's requiring a steady foot and endurance!
