Hartford, CT (map)
We will be meeting up at 2 PM in support of the school walk outs. Please join us at Bushnell Park.
great to see some discussion. Hope that the reality of a fixed resource base and a monetary system that needs perpetual growth just to function can be addressed. Anyone that thinks there are only two choices, capitalism and not-capitalism might be comforted to know that there is actually a huge realm of possibility that moves us forward from where we are and addresses the unsustainability of the current systems.
GREAT question! Post Carbon Institute http://www.postcarbon.org/
To choose anything other than capitalism is to choose something "other" than that which has made us the most prosperous country in the world, and better off than 99% of the world.
To be against the bailouts, to want to fix the abuses is good--you have something in common with the Tea Party. Yet you don't join forces with them because you want to get rid of the system that DESPITE the abuses has made us much better off than the rest of the world.
And that is completely illogical.
So you want to overthrow the very system that has made the 99% FAR better off than 99% of the rest of the world?
Go ahead and overthrow capitalism, and the 99% will find themselves worsse off than they are now.
We are not just leftist radicals and Socialists. We are the middle class. We are the working poor. We are the unemployed or underemployed workers. We are the elderly on fixed incomes. We are 99% of America and we are all the victims of economic injustice! We are taking back our country!
What are you going to replace capitalism with? Anything else that has been tried on earth has produced LESS for the people.
With all of the abuses, we are *still* MUCH better off than 99% of the world.
Just wondering who has the $70,000 a year we needed to pay for health insurance? How much worse can we be? Look for the Q-Tips to be there as well.
we are better off in America because we have massive natural resources, individual liberties guaranteed in the constitution, freedom of travel, and lower taxes than most other nations. All those things are being taken away from us by a deliberate loan/derivative scam setup by "Too big to fail" banking houses, that threaten fear and bankrupcy for all if Congress doesn't pay into their next deliberate money losing scheme (with average 700,000 yearly bonuses of course)
The Tea Party says the same thing.
There is also the General Assembly meeting at 5pm in Bushnell Park (at the benches across from the train station) to catch folks up from this mornings meeting.
