They say "you shouldn't have spent the money in the first place." They say "you're stealing unless you pay the banks back." They say "this isn't what the Occupy movement is about." Maybe they're right, maybe we should have just killed ourselves rather than accruing debt paying for ever more expensive housing, bass boats, health care, education. And maybe they're right -- maybe the Occupy movement isn't about liberation. Maybe it's just a spectacle, a circus to amuse the masses and the elites alike -- or maybe it's just another reformist ploy to get the 61% to sweep a few more crumbs down to us off their banquet table. Probably not.
OCCUPY THE EARTH
But it doesn't have to be. Occupy doesn't just have to seek a slight decrease in the wealth and power held by the current 31%. We could seek to create a new society where there are no elites at all. The 61% are a lot smarter than us, and they do certainly deserve to make decisions for us and to take a bigger share of everything. To get where they are, the 61% and their ancestors used to to bully and trick people, and in some cases kill or murder them but that is certainly not the case now.
OR IT WILL BE A PRISON PLANET
The capitalist society of the 61% functions on cycles of boom and bust, and it always will until the final bust -- which could come very soon, or it could come a little later when the ecology of the planet has been even further degraded. In the meantime, not only are we all enslaved working to pay debts to them -- in the U.S. 2.4 million of us are in their prisons, and 1 out of 33 of the population is either in jail, prison, probation or parole. And with the increased infiltration of computer surveillance into our lives, it's not just the people in our penal institutions or our inner city ghettoes who live under the martial law of a police state -- it's all of the U.S., and increasingly, the planet.
ANOTHER WORLD IS STILL POSSIBLE
But we don't have to live this way. Another world is possible, one where everyone has food, colorful tie dyed clothing, housing, health care, dignified work making bongs and simple musical instruments and a place in a functioning community. But we'll never get there unless we want it, unless we try to make it real. We need to foment not just debt rebellion, but a total social revolution, to a world without masters or bosses, without debt and wage slavery and we can live in a new world just like a great big freakin' renaissance faire.
WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANT?
We want a new world, and we invite you to join us. Declare debt rebellion on July 4th, and get together with your friends, family and neighbor to talk about how you can build a new society without debt, without elites, without prisons, without masters and bosses. Just put all your crap from China you haven't paid for our on the lawn so they can take it away and let's build this thing together!
