FB group said there's going to be another one tomorrow. I can't make it because of a previous engagement. Anyone else going?
Your News Now did a great piece on the meetup today!
The Watertown Daily Times posted about us but, unfortunately, it had a slightly negative tone to it. Mostly about the language some people used at the protest, the numbers compared to Potsdam, the old "lack of focus" thing, and a belief that the core of the protest constituted of people from NYC. There were some from there, but my hubby and I are from Philly, there was a woman from Clayton, several from Watertown, the gal from Redwood... Hmmmm....
So even though there were only a few of us, I think it was successful. The mayor showed up, as well as a representative from the Democratic Party in Watertown. He was really generous and bought us pizza and garlic knots! He also brought some more markers and sign materials for people to use.
Someone was doing an artistic project called "The Alchemical Bank" as a way to get people to think about the problems and possible solutions. It was pretty neat.
A bunch of us were there around 11. We stayed until 2 but a few others stayed after. Did any of you go earlier?
Sorry you didn't make it. Feel better!
Do y'all know what is legal and what is illegal regarding protests in Watertown? I cant really afford to get arrested...so I want to follow laws and have a peaceful demonstration!
I can't protest the war. But I will be protesting corruption in corporations...
Any word on whether or not we have a permit?
What else should we know before coming? How long do you think it will last? Should we try to "potluck" snacks? I like the idea of being in the square because we won't really be an obstruction to local businesses - something that has been a con to the movement in other cities. I also like how central it is so that we could go support said business if we get hungry or cold!
Also, I could try to bring some chalk if we want to decorate the sidewalk.
So I saw on FB that it starts at 8 am, and here it says 11. Are there two different groups meeting, or is there a miscommunication somewhere?
There must be a miss communication I got the idea to start the occupy watertown NY movement on Oct.5 and i started telling people to meet at public square on Oct.22nd at 8AM but i guess people started making it at 11AM so what ever time is best for you i guess lol
So how long do people plan to stay on Saturday? I don't think my husband and I will be there for an entire afternoon because of other obligations, but I wanted to get an idea of what everyone was thinking of...
Awesome. Hubby and I are lucky enough to have full time jobs so we can't literally occupy, but we want to be there some of the time to show support and demand change!
This is "WE THE PEOPLE" at our best... keep it up watertown lets make this happen!!!
I got the idea to start the occupy Watertown NY movement after being inspired by the occupy wall st. protest...I handed out flyers to people around the city and they seemed to like the idea the reason i chose Public square was beacuse i wanted to make it clear to the politicians that this is a real movement and that we plan to stay intill our demands are meant... I hope to see you there and thank you so much sherry for spreading the word :)
can i bring my kids? my husband will be in the field. you know, doing the army thing, to prevent us from being without food, insurance, and a home.
we're all ready for it to be over! I will get a babysitter for saturday as my kids are little (2 and 3months), but I think the square is perfect! I am bringing a friend with me as well (as long as she isnt working).
I'll be spreading the word!! Thank you for planning this!!
Also, I could totally print a poster to put up in JCC. I have a class there Thursday evening. We could also put one in the Mustard Seed. Anywhere else?
A few other people I've told have expressed interest in coming. Has anyone put posters up in places like JCC, The Mustard Seed, or any cafes in the area?
Awesome! I'm so glad to see this starting up. I'm spreading the word!
