Presentation: Oceanblue Divers is proud to present
Marine Biologist Marianne McNamara as she shows us
Everything you Never Knew about our Amazing Local Critters. If you like the marine environment, you are going to love hearing Marianne's presentation. In September of last year, almost 40 divers turned out at Smithtown's Long Beach for a night of marine species collection diving, followed by informative identification and enlightenment on the various species found. Led by Marianne, the team of Biologists and "Fish Guys" proved time and time again how little we know about even the most common of our local marine creatures. Everyone left wanting more. Join us on Thursday, January 15th, 2009 as we bring you more.
Marianne, a graduate student at the Marine Science Research Center at Stony Brook University, and her colleague,
Bill Chamberlain of the
"Fish Guys" team from the Flax Pond Marine Laboratory, will be on hand to entertain and enlighten us with many of the amazing wonders of the marine world. From common species with not so common characteristics to rare and beautiful creatures with amazing talents, this presentation is sure to open your eyes to so many things you had no idea were going on right here in our local waters. Join us for an evening of ecological enlightenment that is not to be missed!
ALSO
There will be:

  • Drink specials ($5 Oceanblue cocktails!)

  • Full bar menu (come early and get dinner

  • Cool divers and folks to hang out with

I really enjoyed the presentation. I started diving in the first place to see marine life, and I would love to hear more specific talks by Marianne or other experts on marine animals and their behavior. Unfortunately, it was sometimes very hard to hear (especially Marianne's coworker, whose name I can't remember; his voice blended into the background noise) because of the nonstop loud music from upstairs and distracting conversations being held by certain members of the audience. I thought other recent venues were much better in terms of actually being able to hear the presentation. I would also appreciate a bit more seating!

She was fantasatic. Very knowledgable and knew how to present. Her coworker was ok but hard to hear.

I know it's hard to find a venue for a large group, and I appreciate the efforts put into finding them, but the search must go on. This place sucks. Presentation was interesting, though long (and this was the "short" version), but it was hard to see and hear.

What I heard was good and entertaining - but actually hearing, and seeing the screen were very difficult in this venue

Fantastic. Even with a couple of beers under her belt, Ms. McNamara was fully in command of the wealth of marine knowledge she imparted with her customary charm and wit, ably aided by her assistant 'fish guy' Bill. Thanks to you both.

Heard Ms. McNamara a while back out at Nassau University Medical Center for a LIDA event, and she was riveting. She took us through every class and phylum in the marine environment and her lively presentation style made it all fun, interesting, and even exciting! And this time there will be booze!
