  • As a public school teacher, I believe it would be good to have Meetups that are supportive of teachers learning basic programming concepts. I'm hoping that this strikes a cord with some of you. Please let me know. I can facilitate the meeting as well as provide support to beginners. I have enough HTML and CSS under my belt to be of some assistance. Two other facilitators/teachers will lead the workshops (Aureliano and Ron ). They will help beginners learn how to create their first simple website among other projects. If you would like to help out with future events/meetups by teaching programming concepts, please don't hesitate, especially if you are familiar with languages such as python and HTML5. There is a $3.00 admission fee paid toward the use of the space museum facility. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Though this Meetup is intended as a technology support group for educators, it is open to all.

Here's what you will learn at our first two meetings:

On a related note, there was an effort to get a Railsgirls OC started. The twitter account was here Also, I'd be glad to present at a meetup if someone gets one started.

Hi. I would love to participate in this! I live in Long Beach and driving to Santa Monica or Glendale is a bit of a trek for me. So having something closer to the southern end of LA county would be great. I'm also starting out in Rails, but have some javascript experience.

Hello Sabrina and Vanessa. Thank you for your feedback. I am showing up regularly to the Glendale Thursday Ruby sessions hosted by LA women's ruby group, but the commute is not easy. I live in Downey. I am going to try and gather momentum and begin a group somewhere east of The LA River. I will keep you posted! Be well.

I think this would be a great idea if it's down south here. There's always stuff in Santa Monica or down in Irvine, but not much in the middle! The study groups for the LA Women's Ruby On Rails Group are pretty far (Santa Monica & Glendale). You might want to advertise with them to get the word out? I'm sure there are other women like me who are members of that meetup but can't participate do to proximity. So you'd be filling a gap.

Ironically, I'll be moving up there in a little over a month. So now that you're starting a meetup around here, I'll be too far. lol But I'd happily participate for the time being. And my parents live in North OC so I might be able to pop in later on as well.

I think it'd be great! I live in Chino though, so if the location's kind of far, I probably won't be making it out. I'd love to learn with other women though! I haven't started learning it yet, but it's a goal of mine

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
