In January, we're bringing a long-time community manager and volunteer manager who has worked managing communities of volunteers everywhere from the UN to TechSoup, Jayne Cravens of Coyote Communications. I've worked with her for about 15 years now, and I can attest to her knowledge, experience and skill at getting a community membership mobilized and volunteering online to help the health and growth of your online community.

Jayne Cravens will discuss: Community members as volunteers: applying the best practices from volunteer management to community management.

Jayne Cravens is an internationally-recognized trainer, researcher and consultant. Her work is focused on communicationsvolunteer involvement, community engagement, and management for nonprofits, NGOs, and government initiatives. She is a pioneer regarding the research, promotion and practice of virtual volunteering, including virtual teams, microvolunteering and crowdsourcing, and she is a veteran manager of various local and international initiatives. She has been interviewed for and quoted in articles in The New York TimesThe Wall Street Journal and the Associated Press, as well as for reports by CNN, Deutsche Well, the BBC, and various local radio and TV stations. Resources from her web site, coyotecommunications.com, are frequently cited in reports and articles by a variety of organizations, online and in-print. Jayne received her BA in Journalism from Western Kentucky University and her Master's degree in Development Management from Open University in the U.K. She is currently based near Portland, Oregon in the USA.

Good group, good direction from Susan Tenby, excellent presentation from Jayne. Needed a better microphone. Second screen showing octribe photos etc during presentation was a little distracting but not too bad. Relevant conversation with attendees afterward was fun.

The tweetstream with back-channel is to allow us to interact with folks not in the room. It's meant to enhance & I think it's a big part of what we do as community managers (manage multiple, simultaneous channels). But I hear you on the microphone. We'll try to finagle a new one. Thanks for joining us!

I definitely learned some stuff about volunteers and attitudes paid employees held against them. I am impressed by Jayne's experience and her ability to draw from that in her presentation.
