Megan do you also consult for online start-up ideas?  If so what do you charge and when could I schedule time to meet with you?

By the way, if anyone who attended took pictures of Wed's event, please pass them on to Susan and we'll get these posted up!

Hi everyone?

We had a fantastic turnout the other night. I counted and I think we had nearly 20 people there in total. It was wonderful having some international presence (all the way from Scotland!) as well as an east coast visitor.

I really got a lot out of the engaging conversation (in fact, it was hard to leave, there was still so much to talk about), but I thought I?d pass on some of the tidbits of our conversation to recap the event and also encourage you all that didn?t make it this time around to come to our next one!

****Converstion tidbits******

--Facebook as a tool?suddenly it?s business and not just college students. Incremental learning a plus; open-API environment fostering connectivity?pros/cons of interoperability

--What motivates folks to join/put effort into online communities? Success in groups organized around a theme (e.g. Flickr); needs to be easy to figure out/use, minimum of clicks. People motivated by identity, value, information-seeking.

--How do you grow community when tool is in place/get people to use tools? Some structure important, needs to be easy to learn & easy for people to see value for time spent

--knowledge management systems, different online learning communities, using different ways of educating through cartoons, blogs, wikis, etc.

--Mobile (Sidekick, Blackberry, etc.) to web technologies, carrier issues vary internationally, abilities of devices including GPS, audio to text

--access issues?more people w/ mobiles vs internet, mobile devices as educational tool, way to bridge web & educational divide, especially with youth, mobile to web as activism tool

--YouTube & others bringing media making to people, making it accessible

Looking forward to next month!
