Loch Lomond hike, bring your lunch

Distance: About 5 miles.

Elevation Gain: About 1200 feet.

Exposure: Mixed Sun and Shade.

Trail Conditions: Steep, rugged and narrow in places. Ticks and poison oak.

Duration: About 3.5 hours including lunch.

What To Bring: Lunch, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, tick repellent

We will meet at the Felton Safeway parking lot and then carpool about 20 minutes to Loch Lomond. Have a dollar bill handy for your share of the $4 entrance fee.

We will hike about 5 miles including 2 miles along the lake shore. We will start at the parking lot on the lake. We will pass through the Glen Corrie picnic area and take Highland Service Road to panoramic views of the lake. Then we will wind our way down to Deer Flat picnic area by the lake for lunch.  After lunch we'll hike along the lake-shore back to the parking lot. The hike is about 90% shade but there will be some direct sun on the ridge.

The trail is rugged and steep, especially in the beginning. Beginners can take an alternate hike along the lake-shore and meet us at the Deer Flat lunch stop; about three miles total and mostly flat.

There are ticks and poison oak at Loch Lomond. Tick repellent is a good idea on any hike. If you make it a rule to avoid brushing against any plant you will probably avoid both ticks and poison oak.
