I don't usually send out info on other groups but since Gail is speaking I thought you may be interested.
I'm an organizer for a group called Evolver Atlanta, and we host free monthly events called "Spores" that cover a wide spectrum of sustainability and consciousness topics. Our Atlanta group is part of an international network of Evolver chapters, about 30 or so right now, and all of the groups around the world meet on the same evening to discuss the same topic. It's a very fun concept, and it's been great for building a community here in Atlanta that is interested in these subjects.
Our upcoming Spore is called "Take Back the Power" -- it is scheduled for Tuesday, December 15, and it will be dealing with Peak Oil and sustainability. I've attended a couple "Atlanta Beyond Oil" meetups in the past, so I'm happy to introduce this event to the list here. We're very excited to have Gail Tverberg as one of our guests, who will be giving an overview talk on Peak Oil and our current situation. We'd also love to have a second speaker, ideally someone who could give a brief talk on alternative energy or "off-the-grid" practices and lifestyles. If anyone on this list would like to speak, or knows of a perfect potential candidate, please contact me at [address removed].
We hold these monthly events at ParkGrounds coffee shop, in Reynoldstown -- not far from Little Five Points. The evening begins around 7 PM and finishes by 9:30 or so.
I'll include the full details below -- hope to see some of you there!
Evolver Spores: "Take Back the Power"
Tues. December 15
7 PM - 9:30 PM
@ ParkGrounds Coffee Shop
142 Flat Shoals Ave SE
Atlanta, GA 30316
Will the end of the oil age mark the end of civilization as we know it? Will we descend into Mad Max mayhem as pumps run dry? Or can the threat of a post-Peak Oil dystopia inspire communities to institute new sustainable models of energy production, conservation, and sharing?
A growing number of institutions, researchers, and DIY pioneers propose new ways to create and conserve power and transfer to using renewable energy in our lives. Innovations in technology have led to a flowering of wind farms, new fuel cells, rapid improvements in photovoltaic systems, hydroelectric, and biomass energy solutions like Biochar. Visionaries like The Resonance Project?s Nassim Haramein work toward harnessing the energy of the vacuum, or the quantum field, to access infinite power.
For this Spore, we invite Atlanta Evolvers to discuss the future of energy, from radical innovations and renewable technologies to conservation through upgraded environmental design. When we know the situation we face and the options available to us, we can work together to prepare a soft landing for the fossil fuel power-down.
