Learning the "paper cup" happened back in the misty "Dawn of Time" (before the Invention of Dirt), but my serious Origami began in Junior High (we call it "Middle School" now), so I'd say in the late 1960's.
I tend towards the Geometric / Modular part of the Origami "spectrum". I'm not "married" to any one particular favorite model.

For me, it's a series of "tangents". From: Math ... Math Puzzles ... Recreational Mathematics ... "Mathematical Games" articles in "Scientific American Magazine" ... back-issues & collected articles by Martin Gardner ... Lillian Oppenheimer ... etc.
I've met Sok before, at some of the "AMNH" monthly meetings, & at OUSA's NYC Conventions. Mostly, it's because he asked me to join, & I felt I could be useful.
The same way that insects cross-pollinate flowers, creative people can inspire still further creativity in each other by sharing what they've learned &/or discovered.
