Folks,

We're excited to announce Jim Brady, former executive editor of washingtonpost.com, will be joining us next Monday to tell us about his new venture.

From his interview with David Kaplan:

Jim Brady, who has been hired to create a local Washington, D.C., news site for the company that owns Politico, says he has a clear idea of what he wants his new venture to be: replicable, digital and with a web-only focus. Brady, a former web editor for the Washington Post and most recently a consultant for Guardian America, spoke to paidContent about his plans for the site (which currently has no name).

According to a memo from Robert Allbritton, who heads Allbritton Communications, the parent of Politico, the new online DC news project will include a merger of the company’s two area TV station sites—WJLA.com and News8.net. The site expects to have a staff of roughly 50 people, separate from the TV stations’ employees.

Gannett has graciously offered to pay for refreshments and Gallup will play host to our rowdy bunch. We only have 75 spots open for this, so snag your spot soon.

Cheers,
Laura and Tiffany

Very good speaker. Glad I attended. However, I have a gripe about timing. The meetup was scheduled to start at 7 p.m. However, the speaker didn't start his presentation until about 7:45. It would be greatly appreciated if speakers could start on time (not blaming the speaker) to take into consideration attendees who have a tight schedule. Time for socializing could take place afterwards, rather than beforehand.

Terrific! I haven't attended in about a year and realize how much I've been missing!

This was my second time attending a meeting (thanks to Matt Mansfield for tipping us Medill grad students off about this group). I met so many interesting people, was exposed to so many new ideas. This group is "my kind of people," and I was just so happy to meet everyone. I still can't believe how friendly and welcoming everyone is, and the connections endure far beyond the nights of the meetings. I'm very sorry I'm leaving the area and won't be able to attend more, but I hope to return in the spring, and look forward to seeing everyone again then.
