ONADC: Crowdsourcing Investigative Journalism on Sept. 16

Were you recently asked to write or edit a solicitation for sources for a story? What about a written request for bloggers to join your website or blog network? How did you design the page, what language did you use, what tool did you use for the form?

Join Amanda Michel, director of distributed reporting at ProPublica, for a day-long, hands-on workshop on the basic principles of crowdsourcing and engaging users — and how using free or cheap tools is not only cost-effective. We're talking about engaging the audience where it's already gathered.

Social media is about journalism as a conversation. Journalists reach out to audiences, seeking ideas for stories and fresh perspectives on stories they are working on, as well as sourcing in ways closer to subjects than traditional reporting techniques sometimes allow.

At the end of the session we'll review what makes a good crowdsourcing project, and then you'll design your own.

The good news?
It's cheap:

$20 ONA members, $35 non-members
$10 ONA student members; $20 non-member students
