Quorn - Pillings Lock Marina -

walking from Quorn Station Road Car Park, to Pillings Lock Marina.  Starting at 10.30am

Parking can be a problem here, but if we go to the White Horse afterwards for a drink, hopefully we will be allowed to park on the car park at the side of the pub.   Or there is some street parking further down Station Road near the Apple Tree pub. Car sharing would seem to be a good idea or public transport, if you live in the Mountsorrel/Rothley area.

I have pre-walked this today, and it comes to just under 4 miles, so takes a little longer than 1 hour to complete (nearer to 1 1/2 hours) just depends how long we stay to look at the boats at the Marina.  Decided not to have coffee here as service can be slow, better to wait until we get back to the White Horse in Quorn for coffee or food.

Stout shoes required, as the path along the river is quite rutted in places and  care is needed to negotiate tree roots and cobbles.

Walking back along Flesh Hovel Lane, to allow those who have not been before to see how to get into the Marina by car, should they wish to do a return visit sometime.

Thank you Virginia, a thoroughly enjoyable walk I'd not been on before. Glad I could make it while off work. And a good venue at the end of the walk.

Or I could always pick you up Jillie (and see what a good job you made of painting your house without my help. Saved by the fact I didn't walk by exclaiming you'd missed a bit ;-)

Yes thank you Virginia. Great walk and nicely led (so there wasn't anything to worry about). Was sorry that I couldn't have joined you for lunch in the pub afterwards, but had a 1.00 appointment and I don't like leaving indie alone in the car for too long yet in case I come back and find the head rests all shredded.

Thank you for organising this walk Virginia, a good idea to do a weekday morning walk, glad I was off work to join you all. Nice lunch at the White Horse too.

Hi would it be ok to bring a dog along?

    September 15, 2013

    • Ray B.

As Virginia says I hope to be bringing Indie along too. Except she's not so little any more. My little pup is all grown up all of a sudden :-(

I'm bringing Dante. He loves people, scared of dogs. I'll hang out at the back.

I have spoken to the White Horse pub, they are happy for us to park in their car park providing we call in at the end of the walk for a drink/food.

It would be Ray except the landlord often put a barrier up to stop anyone entering the car park until just before midday when he opens the pub.

Ah! Nasty man :-). Only ever been at just before 12:00 so wasn't aware of his antisocial shinanigans

Hi everyone, please be aware Station Road is one-way! See comments sent to Hema, re alternative parking, The walk will start from the main car park, so maybe a good idea for you to set out a bit early to make sure you can park and get back to Station Road car park.

it will be first come first served in the council run Station Road car park, alternatively any free spaces in the White Horse car park. It will then be down to street parking in the village. If when you come into Station road, and cannot get onto either car park, drive further down Station Road, (do not bear off to the right at the Apple Tree pub) but go straight on.... There is street parking along this stretch of road, you will then have to walk back up Station Road to the car park.

Sorry I have change my RSVP to a NO on this walk. Initially I thought it was an evening walk. I will be at work at this time on a weekday. Hope you all have a great walk though :-)
