The Battery OWD celebration

  • September 22, 2006 · 12:00 PM
  • Battery Park

Come to Castle Clinton in The Battery at noon on Sept. 22 to celebrate OneWebDay. Craig Newmark from craigslist, Scott Heiferman from Meetup, and other speakers will be there -- big screen -- online postings -- surprises.

We're celebrating OneWebDay because we're the people that make up the web, and we care about it. We don't take the web for granted.

See http://thebattery.org... for directions.

The Battery is accessible from State Street and Battery Place. It is adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Subway: 4/5 to Bowling Green, R/W to Whitehall Street, 1 to South Ferry

Bus: M1, M6, M15 to South Ferry

The Battery OWD was the first year this event took place. The attendees were primarily influencers in the tech community--VCs Fred Wilson and Brad Burnhan; political and tech activists Micah Sifrey and Andrew Rasiel; Steve Levy, Newsweek; Anthony Ramirez, The New York Times. The speakers Scott Heiferman and Craig Newmark were fantastic.

The lecturers did not contribute anything important. They seem really unprepared.

Great job to everyone who was organizing and thank you to everyone who came.

I think devoting a day to consider how the web affects your life in positive ways is a good idea. I wish I could have stayed longer but I got a call from my job and I had to go back (the call, as it turns out, wasn't even that urgent). I will have to wait until next year when I think that I will take a more active role in OneWebDay. Perhaps creating a blog that lists how being online has made an impact on my life.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
