Hi guys,

I think this will benefit many including myself. I am looking for someone in San Jose, but let us know who you recommend wherever they are since people live in different places. If you recommend someone, please let us know why. Thank you.

Hope this helps!

I have to say The Hair Scene in San Jose. The address is 1640 West San Carlos, San Jose. Their phone number is 408-297-4247. I highly recommend Jeannette. And Tanika is good too. They don't braid hair there, but they do everything else including weaves. They care about your hair. This is the only place I go. They are a professional hair salon. You won't see children running around, they are allowed only if getting service. Check them out.

I go to Michelle Renee on Geary St, Union Sq, SF. When I first moved to the Bay, I couldn't find ANYBODY to give me a good recommendation on the Peninsula or South Bay. I went to several salons, only to be disappointed by the stylists being HOURS behind schedule, forgetting appointments, not showing up, "extracurricular" activities going on, etc.

I heard about Michelle Renee on the radio and on TV because she does the hair of several TV/Radio personalities and some high profile local celebrities. She also does a fantastic job on hair period and has a lot of experience. She has recently started an image consulting business and is a representative for Bill Blass fashions.

I go Strictly Styles (off of Saratoga/Kiely) and Image I.E (downtown San Jose), but my absolute FAVORITE is Edera at Dolce Vita Salon/Spa on 1st, in between Taylor and Jackson. She is great, and she usually runs from $45-$70, depending on what you get. Edera asks you what you want to do with your hair every step of the way (product or no product, etc.) and makes sure you're satisfied before leaving.

Moved to Oakland about a month ago. I have tried two spots and both are below average with regards to styling. Still searching in Oakland. First Friday's in Oakland website under the heading of 411 has recommendations on their website. One of the spots was per recommendation on that website and I was disappointed. My plan is to try the others unless someone here recommends another spot in Oakland, CA

I have gone to Da 1 above (in San Jose) listed above and World of Braids (in Oakland). I have had several people do my hair, depending on what I wanted done and have not been dissapointed. They do weaves, braids, and various types of locs
and twists.

Both Da 1 Above and World of Braids are really good:

Be careful with strictly braids on fruitdale. I used to go there and I would usually develop a rash. I thought it was just due to the braids, but showed it to a friend who is a skin care specialist and she told me what it was and that it was due to dirty equipment.

She thought it was due to a dirty comb since I would only have the rash on the part line and I always got my hair braided loosely so it was not due to the tension
