The houses of Top Ten Social, fresco, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts' Future Soul Think Tank are uniting to bring soul heads from all sides of the bay together for a future soul odyssey.

Indeed, the future of soul is coming to San Francisco's MIGHTY as we celebrate the birthdays of Michael Orange + Jacobo Juarez.. Expect a spectacular night of visceral transmissions and soulful pulses featuring dj/producer King BRITT + dj/producer Rich MEDINA + film director/projectionist Terence NANCE + dj/producer J BOOGIE + hosted by Fran BOOGIE!

Soul heads already know how epic a night it'll be with Philly brothers Rich & King playing side by side. We’re to Mars about the addition of award winning film director Terence Nance joining them, projecting live animations to Mighty's three screens.

The Future of Soul hits on Friday, January 31 at Mighty in San Francisco.

OUR FUTURISTS

KING BRITT is a producer, composer, performer and curator of electronic music. As a producer/composer, he fuses his knowledge of music history from many cultures and genres with electronic compositions, which redefine and re-contextualizes the past into the present. King has remixed and produced artists including Miles Davis, Curtis Mayfield, Radiohead, Alison Moyet, Everything But the Girl and Chic. As a performer, King is best known as one of the top globetrotting dj’s in the world. From cutting his craft as the wax poetic for the Grammy Award winning Digable Planets to traveling solo to different cities and countries, bringing cultures together through his eclectic taste and live improvised dance/experimental sets.

RICH MEDINA is an accomplished producer, DJ and poet on the worldwide underground music scene, Philadelphia's Rich Medina connects the dots between hip hop, jazz, house, spoken word, Afrobeat and bass heavy future soul. Rich has performed in front of crowds of thousands, with artists like Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Seun Kuti, Tony Allen, Roy Ayers, Gil Scott-Heron, The Roots, Jill Scott, Antibalas, and Femi Kuti. From NYC to LA to London to Tokyo, and everywhere in between, music lovers know not to miss a club night when Rich Medina is manning the decks.

TERENCE NANCE's first feature film, AN OVERSIMPLIFICATION OF HER BEAUTY, is an IFP Narrative lab alumnus and premiered in the New Frontier section of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The film has garnered recognition from Filmmaker magazine, where he was selected as one of the 25 new faces of independent film. Terence is also an accomplished music video director having collaborated on short films and music videos with artists like Blitz the Ambassador, Cody ChesnuTT, and Pharoahe Monch. Terence currently resides in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn – along with the rest of The Swarm and is currently developing his sophomore feature, THE LOBBYIST.

J BOOGIE has challenged the boundaries of music across genres, styles, languages and borders throughout his 20 year career. He speaks to his listeners, integrating musical genres like downtempo, hip-hop, dub, soul, reggae, funk, Latin, afro-beat, bhangra, dancehall, disco, dubstep, electro and house music. Living up to his namesake, J Boogie always gets the people moving with his sexy percussive dance music, mixing a funky blend of downtempo vibes with Reggae, Disco, Soul, Hip-Hop, Afro, Latin, Tropical, Bhangra, Bass, House and Electronic music to create music of the future.

YERBA BUENA CENTER FOR THE ARTS
The Future Soul Think Tank is a new platform for a creative brain trust, designed to bring together the Bay Area’s most courageous thinkers, designers, entrepreneurs, community organizers, and artists into a collaborative cohort as part of YBCA’s Creative Ecosystem. The Future Soul Think Tank works as a body to consider and model an answer for the question,“What will soul look like in the year 2038?”
