Lets get together @ MoAD (Museum of African Diaspora) for a Film Screening & Discussion
Right On! Poetry on Film
The MoAD FILM SERIES | Cross-Cutting: Black Insurgency on Film
To deepen the appreciation of the Crosscurrents: Africa and Black Diasporas in Dialogue,[masked] exhibition, we will present a rich mixture of documentaries and dramas reflecting the tumultuous times. A few of the films, actually made during the times, have not been presented in San Francisco in decades and others were recently produced that look back at the era. Cornelius Moore, Director of California Newsreel and curator of Cross-Cutting: Black Insurgency on Film, will introduce each film and lead an audience discussion following the screening.
RIGHT ON!: POETRY ON FILM (Herbert Danska & Woodie King, 70 minutes, 1970) – A long lost film on the Original Last Poets (Gylan Kain, Felipe Luciano, and David Nelson) featuring performances of their incendiary poetry. It also stars the city of New York whose streets and rooftops played such a vital role in developing the insurgent culture of this important group which emerged out of the vibrant Black Arts Movement.
Museum admission is $10.
