Hopefully everyone is wrapping up their day and gearing up for the Thanksgiving holiday. As usual, I have some announcements for the week to share.
- Family Profiles for the sponsored families posted/Please donate!!!: As promised in last week's email, I have added to the profiles for the two families that we are going to sponsor for the holidays via Compass Family Services. The full family profiles are here and http://files.meetup.com/595364/CCS%20Sponsorship%20Family%202.pdf but here is a quick summary:
Case 1 (Janet M): Janet is a single mother of two. She became homeless in 2007. She has been staying with various family and friends since then. She originally became homeless from San Francisco Housing Authority when she was evicted because her cousin (who had a criminal record) was staying with her. She also said that she stopped paying rent after her partner/father of her oldest child was murdered and she became an alcoholic. Overall,Janet has had a lot of violence in her life and is struggling to raise her children. Compass Connecting Point is helping her get her life back on track.
Case 2 (Taquila): Taquila is a 24 year old single mother expecting twin boys on 1/10/2011. Taquila became homeless when her mother asked herto leave their home after finding out she became pregnant. The transition to becoming homeless when becoming pregnant has been very hard especially when she is expecting. However, Taquila is hopeful to use her H.S. diploma and her experience as a massage therapist to get a job as soon as she can secure childcare after the babies are born. Being homeless is going to be challenging enough but the thought that she might be able to get some of the necessities for when her babies arrive is a tremendous relief. She is super sweet and really needs a lot of things for the twins she?s expecting. Since she lost her mother?s support, the boyfriend bailed and is on her own, anything would be much appreciated.
Now I realize that the economic times are still tight and there are many other ways to give back, but these families really need our help. We still need donations in order to purchase gifts for the two families on December 4th so if you can afford to and are so inclined please, please, please consider making a $40 donation either online here or offline to me personally.

- Job Opportunities at Betfair: Betfair(http://www.betfair.com) has recently opened a US development office in San Francisco and is currently looking to add about 20 additional staff members (primarily senior level technology members - developers, qa, infrastructure). If you are looking for a new position, send contact Frederick at [address removed]. Betfair just recently went public in the UK and is very well funded. The San Francisco office is start-up within a larger well-funded entity. Anyone wanting any additional info should check out Betfair's CEO's interview on Techcrunch: http://techcrunch.com/2010/11/16/betfairs-david-yu-the-patience-of-a-saint-running-a-2b-company-for-sinners-tctv/
That's all for now. Happy Thanksgiving!
