Hmm I've never had that problem at Strictly Braids. Been going there 2+ years and they are quite professional. Could be an allergic reaction?

E, sad to say, I'm a Nail Tech and Skincare Specialist - - lived in Oakland about 9 years now. I have had the WORST experience. I maintain my own hair (press), however once a month I stop into Alameda Beauty College on Central and Park Ave., in Alameda for my monthly wash and deep condition... They use Redken; however you can bring your own products. These students are AWESOME and dedicated!

By the way ladies

I have been to "Nappy or Not" in Oakland and all I have to say is that they will schedule your appointment for 4pm and show up at 6:30. It has happened on more than one occasion for me.

it's nice to have lots of options cos sometimes it feels like I'm begging these women to fit me in :) :)

Jeanette @ Hair Scene is amazing! Got my hair flat ironed, and they did such a great job I went back again

Syreeta @ Avalon Salon in San Jose on Winchester Blvd. She'll have you in and out...none of that being in the shop all day long:) She is the only Black stylist in the salon, so it may not look like you're in the right place at first.

And if you're willing to venture to Oakland (close to Lake Merrit), Kirtecia @ Reflections of You and More can hook up a short haircut!

Moving from Oakland to San Francisco, I was appalled by the lack of African American focused hair salons in the city. After 6 years of hit & misses, damaged, unhealthy, and overprocessed hair, I have finally found my girl and my hair has really been taking off ever since. Finally I have normal healthy hair again. Her name is Asha and she is at Winifred's Hair salon in the Fillmore district of SF. The cross is Clay St and Fillmore. The salon has been there or about 30 years and really is a hidden and un advertised gem. Totally affordable, too. Of course, if you do not live in or near the city-you probably wouldnt want to travel.

After dealing with the frustration of finding a new hair stylist, my friend decided to start a website to help women exchange information with their sisterfriends across the country about the hair salons that they visit. If you have been to a hair salon in the last 30 days, you can go to and complete a review of a hair salon. Use Ambassador Code "Hair1".

Please support this venture by forwarding this email to others who visit hair salons or who are just into healthy hair across the country.

Moved to Oakland about a month ago. I have tried two spots and both are below average with regards to styling. Still searching in Oakland. First Friday's in Oakland website under the heading of 411 has recommendations on their website. One of the spots was per recommendation on that website and I was disappointed. My plan is to try the others unless someone here recommends another spot in Oakland, CA

My hair dresser name is Denise # 510 654-1431, but I forget the exact street. She is older lady but very professional. She cuts my hair perfect. She has been in the shop long time. call early for an appointment she get booked fast.
