All welcome to attend the second Open Government Melbourne meetup.

Please come along to hear special guest Sarah Stokely give an update on the status of the Open Australia Foundation, the recent series of volunteer "hackfests" held in Sydney and Melbourne, and OpenAustralia's involvement with the Gov2.0 taskforce. Sarah is keen to get some ideas from the OpenGov Melbourne community about the best ways to approach state governments and electoral commissions to continue its work to make our democracy more transparent using online tools.

Sarah Stokely is a longtime tech journalist, blogger and web publisher turned teacher and online communications consultant. She is a volunteer and passionate advocate for OpenAustralia.org, Australia's oldest eDemocracy website. She organised the first OpenAustralia volunteer days in Sydney and Melbourne.

OpenAustralia.org was Australia's first eDemocracy website, and exists to give all Australians a way to keep tabs on what their politicians are doing. OpenAustralia is a non-partisan, volunteer-run foundation committed to helping making our political system more transparent, and giving people online tools to inform themselves about the proceedings of parliament. Its website allows the public to access the proceedings of federal parliament online, as well as being the first website to put the Senate and House of Representatives Register of Interests online.

This meetup is designed to get everyone working on open government initiatives in Melbourne talking to each other. We also welcome interested individuals who want to help out with projects like these. We'll give everyone a chance to explain their project, and leave plenty of time for informal discussion and networking.

Monday 9th November 6 - 8pm.
