Open Government Melbourne Message Board › Digital Democracy Meetup with Delib & OurSay
Open Government Melbourne is proud to present a Digital Democracy Meetup with very special guests Chris Quigley from Delib (UK) and Eyal, Gautam, Luke and Matthew from OurSay.org.
Delib founder Chris Quiqley is in town to launch Delib Australia and share his experience in spreading digital democracy around the world through smart apps and consultation software that enable governments to crowdsource policy and budgetary decision-making.
Delib has worked with a range of public sector organisations including: NHS, BBC Trust, European Parliament, Department of Homeland Security, NAPA, UK Cabinet Office and the Government of South Australia.
OurSay's vision is to connect democracy with social media by giving the public direct access to the people in charge through a combination of online voting and town hall style events. Inspired by sites such as www.openaustralia.org, www.fixmystreet.com and Whitehouse 2.0, thousands of people have already used the platform to vote on any one of the hundreds of issues raised from climate change and immigration to media ownership and women in politics.
This last year has seen the launch of a number of successful OurSays including a project with Q&A on ABC TV, a conversation with the Honourable Malcolm Fraser, events with The Melbourne Press Club, Noam Chomsky and a partnership with The Sunday Age.
Come along to hear Delib and OurSay talk about their recent projects, the challenges of running public consultations and the future of digital democracy. This meetup is designed to get everyone interested in open government initiatives in Melbourne talking to each other. There'll also be plenty of time for informal discussion and networking following the evening's discussion.
