OpenHack August

OpenHack August will be on August 7th (Wednesday) at 7PM. The usual place: 701 Brazos, 16th floor (office side) at Capital Factory.

This time we're going to try something a little different and just see how it works. We'll introduce ourselves, and then split off into groups by which technology you know, or are looking to learn. For example, if we have 4 Rubyists, 4 Python people and 4 Java guys, we'll have 3 teams of four: Ruby/Python/Java. Each team will have to come up with a project to work on (so have something in mind when you show up).

Each team will select a project in the language/ecosystem they're all most comfortable with or looking to learn, and then work on that project for the evening. This can be any project - open source, a work project (make sure you're not violating any workplace rules though), personal, startup idea, whatever.

At the end of the night each team will present what they did to the whole group of people. There's no clear winner, but you may earn some bragging rights if you do something awesome!

Most importantly, you'll meet new people and learn something new, so come join us on Wednesday, August 7th!

In my experience, testflight does this pretty well for iOS https://testflightapp....

In any industry there is room for 3 players. Why not be the next. Facebook was like the 3rd in the series of social networks. And ended up dominating.

Question: I'd like to come but only if I'll be useful to anyone. I've done extensive game scripting in LUA and other, similar languages. I could probably adapt to JS fairly quickly. Anybody looking to do something small and game-like?

This looks very interesting; my current project at work uses node.js and, it being completely new to me, is something I'd like to learn more about. This may be the perfect way to do it.

Check this out: https://love2d.org. I'd be able to set up a simple 2D game using this simple framework. Maybe we can start out using that and merge it with luvit somehow?

I own a pebble and have written a few apps for it. I would like to see a site that provides rest data feeds for developers of apps through the http API of the watch.

I have two PDF fillable forms and three Word documents that I fill out manually. I want to automate this process. I’m looking for someone to coach me through the process or take on the whole project themselves. The input data resides in an Excel spreadsheet. I’m looking for someone knowledgeable in VBScript. I chose VBScript because no installation of software can be done in the environment where I will use these scripts and VBScript is already in the Windows 7 environment. I’m open to using some other tool so long as I can learn to maintain it and it doesn’t require installation of other software. I was a programmer once in my career but I’m a little rusty now. I’m ready to start this project now. If you are interested please contact me as soon as possible. (254)[masked], [masked]

Anyone interested in an app deployment project written in node(perhaps a gruntjs plugin)? Was thinking of a Capistrano killer. Thoughts?

Is there any way we can move some of these to lunch time

    July 30, 2013

    • J. A.

We can't really "move" these, but if you want to host your own during the day somewhere (Capital Factory wouldn't work during the day because they only allow meetups there at night, and you have to be on the schedule, etc. etc.), let me know and we'll set one up.

I'll be at the Elixir meetup this month.
