The OPEN MUSIC ENSEMBLE is an evolving cooperative of versatile professional music improvisers. Our music is from (and for) the heart and spirit. It is universal, para-national, trans-cultural, egalitarian, and non-sectarian. It is for everyone - for listening, meditation, relaxation, contemplation, healing, and, if you wish, dancing. 

 

We offer several different musical experiences. We present Music and Meditation monthly at Tibet House. In this program, basic meditation instruction is first offered to participants, then the program leader invites the audience to place their attention on sounds and silences especially created for them by the Ensemble while they meditate or engage in other contemplative practices of their choice. Sometimes the leader also offers guidance with Martine Batchelor's 'Instructions for Listening Meditation". Finally, after a period of silence, participants are invited to share and discuss their experiences. For upcoming presentations see www.tibethouse.us. 

We have presented this program also at the Shambhala Center, the Interdependence Project, and the Jewish Community Center,  all in New York City. Roshi Joan Halifax, Abbot of Upaya Zen Center, describes Music and Meditation as "a wonderful program".This program has proven helpful to both beginning and advanced meditators.
