Open Source Saturday

Rescheduling May's Meetup 1 week later. If Jarret has his Cyanogenmod compilation demo ready to go, he will demo it. Otherwise I want to play with Screencasting software like Google hangouts. May 3rd I will be attending a cancer walk, and everyone is welcome to come walk.. or run! This is a memorial for a dear friend, Laura "Wawa" McCracken. We lost her a few weeks ago due to complications arising from Chemotherapy.

For details, or to support Wawa's Warriors, a tax-deductible cause Laura dedicated herself to, hit the link. I made a sub-team, so you can represent OSSat if you want to too! I hear White Rock Lake is very pretty in the morning, despite the unfortunate "exercise" aspect. :)

Hope to see everyone on one or both Saturdays! John Fields ---- Caution: Generic Meetup description follows ---

We are a group of some serious, and some not-so-serious, geeks that want to see the Open Source Ethos spread and help as many people as will let it. During the meetings, which are pretty much an excuse to get together and have fun, we catch up on topical and industry news, projects, code releases, recent technical problems and solutions...

There are sometimes presentations - anything open source but if it is software then running on more than 1 platform is preferred (Linux, Mac, Win, etc.). Mobile is an exception due to Apple's refusal to let FOSS code onto their IOS platform - so we talk about Android a lot more.

I you have an itch to scratch that can be solved by technology, bring it on in! You well always get an educated opinion and sometimes a useful answer too. The group is not homogeneous around one specific technology, or industry, or language or nationality. What we have in common is our desire to make our lives better, and the set of people in "our" is everyone, everywhere.

Join us afterwards for lunch! Hope you have a hunger for adventure. ;)

Nice turn out today, lots of new people and good energy! OR is that Good Energy(tm)? At any rate we spent most of the time talking about the new space and what other groups are around, only a little bit about software.

Jarett brought up this very cool javascript game/tutorial:

Good luck to Jon on his empending fatherhood! Lets us know the weight and stuff, when you have a quiet moment. So like in January? :)

Looking forward to a crazy 4th of July, so speak up if we should maybe maybe move it to the following weekend? Please stand up, please stand up. Slim Shady...

We also have some fresh job seekers, so if you need quality tech minded people, shout out to the list and let them hit you back.

Short answer: CM demo isn't ready. Compile issues, which is good cuz if it was easy we wouldn't need a demo! I'll update the website in a bit. Want to test a HTML5 terminal client, you can swipe /copy what the presenter is typing. Also maybe nail down the steps to get a scheduled Google hangout online and recorded.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
