thanx jeff. i just read up on it. gdrive only runs on windows so wont do for us. all our machines are on linux.
on dropbox, it runs on linux but you can only share links to files in your public folders. that means anyone who guesses the filenames could access the links. that obviously wont do. doesnt dropbox let you share links for the other folders too?
for example inspector bob goes to the site, does the form for his site inspection on his tablet, saves that form as a file in his local dropbox folder for inspections. back at the office he syncs tablet w/ dropbox cloud which syncs with local dropbox inspections folder on his office PC. so far so good. his inspections folder is shared w/ other team members so they all see it too. still good.
but if he wants to share inspections as view only w/ the customer, he has to share the link for the folder (not the actual folder). & that link sharing is only with files in the public folder which the entire world could try to guess & gain access to. or am i wrong about this?

Gdocs now works with Gdrive for offline documents. Edit it offline, and then when the device gets a network connection again, it'll sync. I use Dropbox like that already. Not sure if that does what you want or not?
