There is a lot there....

First: this is on windows right?

2) What webserver is running on localhost?

3) the port number (ie: the digits after the colon) should "steer" the browser request to a service.
8080 should go to the openLazlo service on your box
8082 should go to PHP, which Drupal is written in (also - on your box).

NOTE: only ports 80 and 443 are standardized. 8080, 8082, etc. are special purpose so don;t read anything into those numbers. They should work for you, on your box, because of the book's setup.

We want to verify the webserver is steering correctly.
What do you get from:
 a) http://localhost:8080/
 b) http://localhost:8082/

Start there?

I bought the book AJAX and Flash Development with Open Laszlo by Coremans.
I'm stuck on page 10.

It says to put http://localhost:8080/lps-x.y.z/laszlo-explorer/index.jsp
in my browser. I get this error: "The requested page
"/lps-x.y.z/laszlo-explorer/index.jsp" could not be found."

The error comes back on an Acquia Drupal page. I just installed Acquia
Drupal successfully. It works for Drupal when I put
http://localhost:8082/admin/dashboard in the browser address bar.

I've tried various things, such as
http://localhost:8082/lps-3.2.x/laszlo-explorer/index.jsp (3.2 is the
version number) to no avail. Notice that I changed 8080 to 8082, since
that works with Drupal.

I just now tried
http://localhost:8082/C:/Program%20Files/OpenLaszlo%20Server%203.2/Server/lps-3.2/laszlo-explorer/index.jsp

and

http://localhost:8082/C:/Program Files/OpenLaszlo Server
3.2/Server/lps-3.2/laszlo-explorer/index.jsp

and got the response

Forbidden You don't have permission to access /C:/Program
Files/OpenLaszlo Server 3.2/Server/lps-3.2/laszlo-explorer/index.jsp on
this server.

this time on a plain page, with no mention of Drupal. Does that mean I'm
getting closer? When I try the same thing with 8080 I get an Unable to
Connect error.

Suggestions will be appreciated.
