The previously scheduled November weekend workshops have been moved to the nightly meetup. We'll spend about an 1 hour per topic to show the basics and getting you going on using them for work/projects. Please bring a modern laptop with a modern web browser (chrome/firefox/safari). For the QGIS training you will need to bring a laptop with QGIS installed (version 1.8 or 2.0.1, download from qgis.org). We'll be using the coffee shops wi-fi.
Learn what Openstreetmap is and how you can get involved. This is a free 1 hour introduction.
We'll cover what it is, how you can use the data and making your first contribution so you can help improve the Ottawa map. All welcome!
QGIS is a free desktop GIS that allows both map production and sophisticated spatial analysis (how close is the nearest coffee shop). We'll be holding a free 1 hour introduction to this great software.
We'll be using data from the City Ottawa's open data portal http://ottawa.ca/en/mobile-apps-and-open-data/open-data-ottawa
