Maps On The Hill 2014

Maps On The Hill is the annual map show-off event held during the winter legislative session in the main hall of the State Capitol. Here's some more info: http://gis.utah.gov/register-for-maps-on-the-hill-2014/ - I've registered on our behalf so we have a spot to show off some OSM goodness. What should we show? Who wants to come help out?

I will be there Wed moring. I attended last year. Coming with me will be some power cords and power strips, as well as an Internet access hocky puck with a router. I have other items I can bring, let me know what is still needed. I know that the Capital WiFi can get overly crowded. On my laptop I would like to show the "OSM Live Map" and "Show Me The Way". Is there anything else I can do?

Larry, I am sure we can accommodate multiple displays of content at the booth. In terms of incorporating OSM to GE, that is discussed here: http://wiki.openstree...

If you don't want to go that in depth since we have less than a day, we could talk about how someone could use OSM to update the features found during the virtual tour and then download off-line maps of some of those places, such as Ponderosa Ranch resort, using Maps with Me (http://mapswith.me/en...)

I submitted this text to the organization to outline what we will present: We will show what makes OpenStreetMap, as a crowdsourced map, different from any of the other maps you will see at Maps On The Hill. OpenStreetMap is a 'wiki of maps' that anyone can contribute to today! We will show the easy-to-follow steps to adding information to the map, and highlight some of the incredible detail users from across Utah have added to the map to date. Because people are adding information to OpenStreetMap around the clock, it is the most up-to-date map out there, and the map data is free for anyone to use.

I have contacted history and geography teachers in various schools to give their students the opportunity to create presentations on historical events, including events in Utah history. Basically the students collaborate on a spreadsheet that contains the elements of slides that include the location data, text, and images. This data is turned into the presentation. It can also be added to OpenStreetMap.

I am populating Google Earth via crowd-sourcing...right now concentrating on history including family history. I have something that generates a slidetrip via a gedcom file. I don't know if this applies to this group, though, since it is Google Earth that I'm currently talking to.

Hey Larry - if it's even remotely related to OpenStreetMap, if you can make that connection, I'd say go for it.

I started to edit the Map Book they are putting together by adding an OpenStreetMap slide: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1IgHiAfyrPsBQGxvOFOx_F_xQwDKT7t5YCEHtEvAq7bs/edit#slide=id.g2607cbc55_40 Please edit to improve!

Here is some more info I received from the organizers: Thank you for registering for Maps on the Hill 2014. We are getting really excited. We are hoping to see a bunch of new maps and new projects that people have been working on.

    To do:

    1. We need all participants to fill out this one page form to let us know what type of presentation you are planning- https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1J30Knejn9ksHZikCqGZD093ycU_8l_-hdU4V7Xon3b8/viewform. Please fill this out as soon as possible as we need to communicate with the Capitol facilities.
