Announcing a new Meetup for The Chicago Opera Meetup Group!

What: HDTV Encore Broadcast of Salome

When: October 22,[masked]:30 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: This is a high definition television encore broadcast of the Salome performed at the New York Metropolitan Opera October 11.

Salome is a relatively short one-act opera by Richard Strauss based on the play by Oscar Wilde, which in turn is based on the biblical story of Salome. This is perhaps the most infamous opera of all time and was banned in many opera houses after its premier in 1905. It includes the infamous "Dance of the Seven Veils," and the shocking final scene when Salome makes love to the severed head of John the Baptist.

The world renowned soprano Karita Mattila is Salome in this production, which caused a sensation in New York when it premiered last year.

I strongly recommend buying tickets in advance through, or at least check the box office for ticket availability. Many of the Met HDTV performances were sold out last year.

We will meet at 6:30 in the second floor lobby of River East 21 then enter and try to get seats together. My cell number is[masked]-6180.

There should be time after the opea to have coffee or a drink afterwards and discuss the opera.
