Propability and Expected Value in Option Trading

Hi All,

I’m excited to announce our next meet-up on Wednesday July 31st.  One of our members Craig Hilsenrath will be doing a presentation on using probability and expected value in option trading.

Craig is the founding partner of Hilco Financial Software. His options software enables users to analyze option volatility, risk and trading strategies. In addition to the presentation Craig will demonstrate how to use a spreadsheet to implement the expected profit/return calcs as well as how to compute expected return for multiple positions in his software so that they can be compared and contrasted

Craig spent 25 years as a software engineer for investment banks, hedge funds and financial industry service vendors. He brings a unique combination of technical abilities and an understanding of strategic business processes that translate into a superior custom software product for his clients.

Prior to starting Hilco Financial Software, Craig held positions of Senior Software Engineer, Senior Systems Architect, Chief Designer, Assistant Vice President and Senior Analyst for such leading US financial firms as RBS/Greenwich Capital Markets, Tudor Investment Corporation and Fitch Risk Management.

I think this is a great extension of our previous meet-up of vol moves before earnings.  As always we will have beverages and pizza.  I’m looking forward to seeing everyone.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks,

Jon

Looks great, Craig. Looking forward to using this.

At what point does the clock start ticking on the trial? And could we, if necessary, convene a group Q&A session at some point?

    Thanks, again, for last night.

I think it would be very useful to have a tool that displays the implied distribution using a set of options that the user selects. Maybe provide a choice of weighting schemes, too, such as vega-weighted. This way, one see what the skew implies for the future distribution.
