Kids nature play mud walk

Nature Play - Mud walk
Wednesday, November 6, 2013
10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Spring Hammock Environmental Center
CR 419, Winter Springs, FL (edit map)

Ages 5 and up are appropriate on this day due to trail conditions.

Here is trail info: http://www.floridahikes.com/spring-hammock-preserve. Meet in education center parking lot. Please be on time this day.

Nature Play: Wednesday's 10 am - 12 pm

Children pls wear long pants tucked into socks and good shoes to protect again any insects. Bring water, snack, sunscreen and hat if needed for your child. Also bring a gallon size water to rinse off at your car as there may be MUD :) Yahoo!!

We will start with a nature ramble/walk/explore/discover around the area so please be on time for the departure from the parking lot - Once on the trail we can transition into child led, free play in nature (i.e. just let them be kids to play in the woods like we did).

On other days we will have a campfire and make fire bread or fire soup. Feel free to bring things like digging tools, bins, buckets (water to play with is available), magnifying glasses, binoculars, twine, old sheets and clothes pins to build forts with, scissors for cutting grasses and leaves to weave, hammocks to hang etc...There is a screen pavilion, bathroom, water fountain, water spigot, fire making space available.

This is a meetup based on free play, not a structured activity led by a single leader. Children not exposed to nature free play before may need some help and guidance from the parent or other kids to show them what there is to do in the woods without traditional playground equipment. Then kids can teach other kids how to play in the forest if they are given the time and space - to revitalize a disappearing skill.

What a great day! Thanks for joining our Nature Play meet-up group Kathryn! Amazing that this place is open to the public and is a safe feeling patrolled trail. We finally found a wonderful stream to play in with the kids! and the glorious mud!

Looks interesting. I hope you get a lot of responses. I sent a link to a home schooling mom I know.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
