Hello everyone, I received this email from Carolyn Ozimek with her organization "Fix The Blue Marble" and thought I'd share it with all of you:
Our group strongly believes that the Tar Sands and Keystone will affect us directly by increasing greenhouse gas emissions, increased air pollution from continued reliance on fossil fuels and the increased potential for another Deep Water Horizon oil spill. Indirectly, oil spills on land and in lakes/rivers/oceans could add additional stress to nature's delicate balance in Florida. We just think that this issue is so big and its impact would affect all of the United States, and for that matter, the world.
Another reason we are connecting with you is that we see benefit in groups like ours and yours working together. The Organic and Sustainable Living Meetup has a specialty and focus on how to maintain and support the environment. I, personally, support many efforts but I cannot work on them all, and so I am happy you are working on it for me and others in our community. I do my little bit of reusing and reducing where I can. I compost. I won't have a dog because we have gopher tortoises and wild rabbits on our property. My family and I enjoy the outdoor and I have a particular affinity for clouds. I don't have a sprinkler system and we use xeriscaping at our home. I write letters to politicians and heads of companies about environmental issues. I do what I can but I can't do it all myself so I am grateful that others are working on what I can't do and I support them. There may be an issue where you want our support, perhaps attendance at a function that you need to show a group of people or help with a letter writing campaign. Ideally, we have similar, if not the same, values and goals.
Having said all that, I invite you to attend a meet up we are having that includes a presentation.
The details are:
Mon. Jan. 6 6 -8pm
Alfaya Trail Branch, Orange County Library
12000 E. Colonial Dr., Orlando Fl. (near UCF)
You are welcome to join us, bring friends and post this on the Organic and Sustainable Living Meetup calendar.
I would be happy to answer any questions you may have and I hope to see you there.
