3/29 Cherry Valley Share Distr. at Highland Springs Resort/Grand Oak Steakhouse

Would you like to buy super fresh, organic produce at wholesale prices? The IEOPBC is a community of people who get together and pool our money to make group purchases of organic produce in bulk to save money. We also support local organic farms by buying as much produce as possible from our network of local organic farmers.

Each participant prepays $28.00 per share. SHARES MUST BE PAID IN ADVANCE. The organizer team uses the money to buy wholesale organic produce by the case, and divides it equally amongst the participants for distribution the following Meetup. Please read our "Pages" for a description of the group and rules.

Payment deadline is Tuesday at 11:59 pm prior to following Meet-up.

Payment instructions follow these important messages:

Wonderful first time experience. I can't wait for the next meet up! But I forgot to ask about the "meat on the hoof" when I was there. Perhaps next time!

My understanding is all the produce was from local areas. My cucumbers say Mexico and the pears say Argentina.

    • Barbara L

Maureen, under the "Pages" tab on this site I found the details/mission of this group. They do say 'wholesalers' and 'local farms' as the sources. I think the goal is as much local farm produce as possible, supplemented by purchases thru wholesalers - that would account for out of area organic produce. The pears were incredible and ripened perfectly. I have no issue with the source of the produce.

      2 · April 3, 2014

    • IEOPBC O.

Thank you for answering this question so well, Barbara! Glad you like the pears!

      April 3, 2014

  • Maureen J.

I was just wondering about the out of area produce. I do agree tha pears were wonderful and so were the cukes

    • IEOPBC O.

We understand your concerns, Maureen. We are working toward the goal of being able to eventually buy only local, organic produce for the shares. Currently, if we want variety, we sometimes have to supplement by using an organic wholesaler. It was particularly difficult finding fruit for our last share, so thank goodness for Barbara Larsh and her grapefruits, as well as a relationship with a new certified organic citrus grower (The Grove), and those pears from the organic wholesaler! We feel that it is important to only buy from organic growers, with the hope of encouraging more local, organic farming. We do this not just so we can avoid the “dirty dozen,” but to protect our local environment: air, water, and soil, from the pollution and toxins that are produced by conventional farming practices.

    Great! but no bananas.

    3 · March 29, 2014

    • IEOPBC O.

We apologize. The bananas are a tricky when it comes to ordering just the right amount for a buying club like this. We have to order by the pound, and depending on the size of the bananas, one case can have anywhere from 15 to 25 + bunches. Sometimes it's tempting to stop ordering them entirely, and never have to deal with banana angst again, but we are not quitters. : )

Will there be a REDLANDS pick up location this season.

    1 · March 19, 2014

I think I may have a location in mind, let me talk with them and see what they have to say. About what size refrigeration would you need?

      2 · April 1, 2014

    • IEOPBC O.

Ideally, one half of a walk in fridge, but we could make do with less. Thanks Morgan, can't wait to see what you have in mind. : )

Everything was great but the celery

    2 · March 30, 2014

    • Martha

After tasting the celery and realizing I was going to need to cook it, I went to Pinterest for celery soup ideas. http://www.vegetarian... I used the entire bunch, including leaves, after cutting off the root end. The recipe used an apple and curry seasoning and it ended up being sweeter than I liked, so I added potato.

      1 · April 1, 2014

    • IEOPBC O.

Thanks for posting this recipe, Martha! I love curry! I don't like too much sweetness either, so I'm thinking about using one and potato and one apple instead of two apples, or two sweet potatoes. I'm definitely going to try this one! Btw, thanks again for volunteering last Saturday, I hope we didn't keep you too long!

1st timers and we spent an extra $22 and about half of it is gone :) we had the mushrooms and small sweet peppers with some steak tonight and it was delicious! Should've done this a long time ago! Perfect timing with a 5 month old who is just starting to eat. All of these organic foods I can make for her :)

A HUGE thank you to you Barbara L and hubby for your generous grapefruit donation, which of course, includes all the work to pick it and transport it, on top of the fact that the grapefruit themselves are wonderful!

The honey was so good and such a great price. Any chance of that again?

    1 · March 25, 2014

    • IEOPBC O.

Hi Mona, We bought our honey from Newsom Honey Farm, unfortunately they are now temporarily closed. Conditions had been very poor for the bees, and they ran out of honey. We hope to hear good news from them soon.

How much do you usually get for the price? Also is this pick up location close to riverside?

    March 21, 2014

    • IEOPBC O.

Please check out our photos and discussions section for details about the types of produce received in the shares. This Meetup is not close to Riverside, I would recommend only picking up a share if you have another reason to come here...like the Sheep Shearing Family Event at the Highland Springs Resort happening this Saturday, right after our Meetup. : )

      March 24, 2014

  • Candice S.

I am hosting a bridal shower Saturday and my friend that usually can pick up for me will be out of town. I will change my RSVP for this pick up no NO and pick up in 2 weeks instead since I already pre-paid
