Hello fellow organizers!

Here is a special event for those of you who started a group less than 6 months ago, or did not start yet a group but would like to. This event is also great for assistant organizers, event orgs, etc.

Bring your questions and concerns, your comments and your excitement!

IMPORTANT NOTE: please be aware that the building is under renovation, so currently entrance is on Crosby Street, just around the block

CONTENT

We start at 7 pm sharp. Please arrive a few minutes before so we can give you a name tag. Attendees will receive a short printout with the top 20 suggestions for new organizers, compiled from the forums at meetup.com. We will quickly review them one by one at event, giving you then the chance to ask questions and/or express your opinion/make comments. Event should end around 8.45 pm, leaving some time to mingle if you stay with us after that time.

COST

There is an event fee of $2, pay either online or at event. Price includes a short printout with the "Top 20 suggestions for new organizers".

See you!

This event was a great success! I really appreciate all of the information I received geared towards helping me succeed! I also enjoyed speaking to Alex who helped steer me in the right direction as to how to get more help through the support tab. I really think that Meet up should think of putting out videos for visual learners that need help! Its too bad we didnt have enough time to really our and network further... Great meeting, nice people, good info, yummy pizza! Thank you Nestor & team!

@Elli: we have one event like this once a year, with a U-shaped table and Q&A, not dividing into groups. Usually we are just 2 experienced orgs for this. Biggest problem: most experienced orgs do not want to participate on this for obvious reasons. They sometimes come to events for the same reason you come: finding solutions to their own problems! learning more and networking w/other experienced orgs. Not to train newbies or respond questions about other group types they have no experience with.

I suggest like 15 minutes reserved where you can have round table discussions between "Veteran Organizers" and "Novice Organizers" (much like the meetup.com/organize logo image with the little red figure implies!). Perhaps 1-2 experienced Organizers Q&A directly with a group of 6-8 potential/new Organizers for more targeted answers to inquiries. Possibly rotating groups to really get people more engaged in discussion, akin to the social interactions which Meetup groups are all about! :-)

Informative, insightful and inspiring! Now, I have more clarity on the potential pitfalls and triumphs that can be encountered when leading/organizing Meetup events. Thank you to all the presenters and participants who shared helpful tips and suggestions. I look forward to collaborating with some Organizers and creating a Meetup group in the near future.

    Hi Nestor,
Thanks for your good counsel, also it was good to hear from Scott. I liked your combination of easy-going and altruistic qualities towards the art of organizing combined with your firmness about people continually attending only free events. Also enjoyed your sense of humor. Plus hearing about the roots of how Meetup came into being from Scott was an added plus. Bravo. Nicely done.

This was a very informative and helpful event. The information was present in a clear and concise manner. A really good event for new organizers to learn from experienced organizers on how to be more successful with their groups

Very informative event. Nestor gave lots of great notes on how to run your own meetups successfully. Everyone at meetup was kind and helpful. It was worth the 1hour 35min it took me to get there. ;p

    Hi Nestor,

Thanks for hosting this event and thanks to the Meetup team for their time and goodies. ;p

I found it to be very informative and I feel confident that I'll be able to run a success meetup group. Looking forward to checking out your other groups. :)

    Ciao!

It was a lot of fun. However, I really wish we could have got more advice on how to find venues. Meetup is so well organized in other ways, that this is a real lack that needs to be addressed. I got some helpful suggestions; but for $12 a month, I shouldn't have to be doing all the work myself when Meetup could so easily organize a list of commonly-used venues along with reviews by organizers who use them. P.S. A lot of the meeting was helpful and the pizza was great!

I had a great time. It was fun learning from Nestor and the rest of the Meetup gang and the pizza was delicious. I found Scott Heiferman's story about how Meetup first stared to be inspiring. Thank you for an enjoyable and informative evening.

It was very informative, the list of "how to" is very helpful. I needed that meetup.

It was great to meet with Scott, the founder of MeetUp Group. Nestor and MeetUp HQ staff were great in providing useful suggestions about how to make MeetUp Group to be successful. The tour of the MeetUp HQ was also a nice surprise.

The event was too basic. I am a first-time Meetup organizer, but a long-time Meetup member, so most of the tips were obvious. I was pleased, though, that Meetup CEO Scott Heiferman stopped by to talk to the group. What a treat!

Good luck with the event. Wish I was visiting NY. Would love to see a follow up though on the outcome and any questions others may have had. I'm thinking of hosting something similar here in San Diego. This is a great idea for organizers!!! Well done, Nestor.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
