This December we are proud to Feature Handmade Nation with Hog Eat Hog
Culture Pop is a unique one-night only pop-up exhibition of Central Florida’s fine artists and artisans. December is a time of holiday cheer and gift giving, so we invite you to join us in the Main Garden for the Handmade Nation featuring Hog Eat Hog, with gifts of all sizes, shapes, and for any budget.
Hog Eat Hog, led by designer and owner Blair Sligar, is a design-build shop based in Winter Park that specializes in local and salvaged materials to create beautiful one-of-a-kind art installations, furniture, and well-designed home goods. Using a mix of traditional and modern woodworking techniques that stay true to old-time finish recipes, Hog Eat Hog hand makes timeless pieces that bring quality, functionality and originality to any space. Hog Eat Hog is a featured designer at West Elm – you may have seen the display in the Mall of Millenia.
Concurrent to the Culture Pop! event, the A&H celebrates its new exhibition, Ex Libris: Altered Book Sculpture by Dawn Rosendahl, with an Opening Reception from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Maitland Art Center Galleries. The Galleries will remain open throughout the Culture Pop event so guests can stop in and enjoy this exhibition of extraordinary sculptural works. Rosendahl, an A&H Artist-In-Action, transforms everyday books into lasting sculptures, resurrecting them as they become obsolete in this age of new media. Working with books like blocks of wood, Rosendahl alters them into stunning, surrealistic masterworks.
View the amazing works of Hog Eat Hog and Dawn Rosendahl, and stay and enjoy music by Jayo, relax in the Mayan Lounge featuring music by DJ Nigel, craft beer by Cigar City Brewing and Joel Gott fine wines. Also enjoy readings by Maitland Poets and Writers, featuring a rare night of both poetry and prose from Phillip F. Deaver, Rollins writing professor and winner of the Flannery O’Conner Award. Combine it with the fresh, debut poetry of Suzannah Gilman, nominated for a Pushcart Prize for poetry, and you have a memorable night of wonderful words.
