Surprising insights from Systems thinking

Systems thinking is the process of understanding how things, regarded as systems, influence one another within a whole. In nature, systems thinking examples include ecosystems in which various elements such as air, water, movement, plants, and animals work together to survive or perish. In software development, Systems Thinking explains how organizations work to create software and especially, how they fail.

On this meetup, Niklas Björnerstedt and Jon Jagger explains how Systems Thinking can help you understand and improve your processes and they add their newest thoughts on Systems Thinking: If you ask 100 people what systems thinking is you´ll probably get 100 different answers. However, a reasonably common thread amongst all 100, we feel, is its counter-intuitiveness. A lot of ideas about Systems Thinking are just not obvious. At least, it wasn't to us. (But perhaps we are just very slow on the uptake.)

I've also put the slide-deck up on my blog, together with a hyperlinked list of all the books mentioned.

Great event! How about a new meetup focusing on Management By Objectives (MBO) or New Public Management (NPM). This has become so popular these days, so maybe somebody know a manager or consultant that can come and explain to us why this is a good idea?

Really interested topic. Great examples, but had hoped for something a little more advanced. Perhaps another meetup with more advanced stuff?

Here is a link to Kahneman's book "Thinking Fast and Slow" that I mentioned in the introduction to the talk:

Godt grunnlag for forståelse, nå er det bare å holde flere foredrag med mer spesifikke temaer innenfor systems thinking. :-)

Bare rør hele greia med stengt inngangsdør, og henvisning til en bakdør som ligger helt i mørke.
