I don't know Staten Island that well
(my trips there have been "let's see where this train goes to"
and "let's help in the post-Sandy cleanup"), but a look over the
Google Map of St Georges (the place the ferry goes to) shows a
bookshop/cafe with Internet called "Every Thing Goes" about 600m
from the ferry terminal (http://www.etgstores.com/bookcafe/
might be a good place to meet up (except Sunday: it's closed on
Maps of Sandy damage areas are below... many of these are on the
train route across the island - including the hardest-hit area,
which is off Dongan Hills station. Choices include mapping St
Georges (by meeting somewhere like the bookshop, we might get a
few of the local internet types interested in mapping too); and
taking the train to Dongan Hills and mapping the vulnerable area.
