I know Miles, my Cocker Spaniel, isn't well socialized and would benefit from one-on-one skills with meeting other dogs. I think many times I can "read" him, and I know what to expect from him. In these situations, he can probably sense that I am feeling ambiguous about letting him meet other dogs - in those rare cases that I do - and so he invariably does act up. He picks up on my feelings also most likely.

Thanks for all of the great ideas that are being tossed around lately. I have heard all of your wonderful input and been so impressed with how committed everyone is to learning and working with their dogs.
That said, I have decided to take The Eastside Fido Frolic & Train in a new direction. I feel and have always felt that unstructured off-leash play is not appropriate for a great deal (dare I say most) dogs and that the idea that dogs should just get along with everyone all the time is more than a little ridiculous. I want you all to mean more to your dog than just being the thumbed creature than unhooks the leash at the dog park. I would like for you all to be able to read your dog and trust it and there is an amazing bond that develops from this. So here are some ideas...
Seek out more human-dog interactive activities for our meetup, like walking, hiking, agility, and flyball.
Practice more structured dog-dog greetings so that the dogs are not just burning off pent up energy but are actually learning self-control and good play skills.
Allow those dogs that do not want to interact to have other options or interact on an individual instead of a group basis.
Attend more non-meetup dog events like the Seattle Dog Show so that we can be exposed to a wider knowledge base and see more training styles. Keep the calendar updated.
That's all! Thank you for all of your patience with scheduling the meetups. I am looking for new outdoor venues so I have been hesitant to schedule meetups until I can confirm the space. As always, if you have any input on how to improve our meetup I would love to hear from you.
Thanks Dog Lovers!
