Canoe/Kayak the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes

Looking for something to do over the July 4th Weekend?

“Take a captivating journey around the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes, where 13 miles of freedom to the Lake of Isles, Brownie Lake and Cedar Lake can all be had. This ride is one of the best kept secrets in the Twin Cities. Enjoy arched bridges, canopies of trees and the Twin Cities skyline, all in the same trip!"

It should take 1.5 – 2 hours to complete the round trip, so we’ll do a two hour rental.

COSTS: Canoe $19 per hour, Dbl, Kayak $19 per hour, Single Kayak $12 per hour. Group discount of 20% available if we get at least 10 people total.

When RSVPing please indicate if you want to canoe or kayak, and if it’s a single or double kayak that you would like to rent. If not coming with a friend we’ll pair you up with a new friend, so everyone can paddle.

There is a $5 deposit for this event, which will be refunded when you show up and pay the full price the day of the event. This policy for this event is meant to reduce "No Shows" when reservations have been made. For this event I had to reserve a certain number of canoes/kayaks

Beautiful day too bad it was too windy to rent canoes. Still fun walking around the lake.

Diane and I were the only paddlers then later Carl meet up. Diane and I discussed how to safely get through the bridge area, paddle efficiently, and what to do thought the 2 1/2 foot waves on Calhoun. All went well. YAHOO!!! It was like riding a bucking horse in a hurricane. What fun. I'm sure Diane (fairly new to kayaking) has more confidence in her skills and abilities.

Thanks to Paul with all his patience & wonderful encouragement & very excellant kayaking skills, Paul & I went out. He was with me all the way. I dont think I would have made it out there with out his expertise. Paul , you were wonderful! YAHOO! Yes, those waves were like riding a bucking horse in a Hurricane. but WE DID IT--what a ride! Thanks for helping me load & unload my kayak. Carl met up with us at the end. Too bad we did not see him earlier. Oh well , better late than never & he made it in one piece. It was an enjoyable ride. Thanks Paul for your encouragement!

Cost per person for a canoe for two hours is $18.46. Cost for a single kayak for two hours is $20.70. I just received this info from the owner. He also just called me and stated that if the wind speed exceeding 20 knots he isn't allowed to let any canoes/kayaks out. He told me the wind speed right now was 14 knots. So lets hope the wind speed stays down. Sorry for such late notice on this, but he just got me all this info.

Looks like I'll be spending most of the day working on my vehicle instead of paddling. :-(. Boo. Have fun everyone.

A reminder to bring some water and sun screen. It does get warm sitting out there in the open water with the sun's rays reflecting off the water.

Just so everyone who paid the $5 deposit knows. The $5 does not go towards your canoe/kayak rental. It is to ensure that people who are renting actually show up. I made a reservation for a certain number of people and prefer to have a good showing so we get our discount. You will be FULLY REFUNDED your $5 for showing up. This is to limit the number of no-shows we have when payment is required for an event.

This sounds great but I don't like to use Paypal (I'm not very tech savvy). Can I just show up with my money? I'd like to canoe, I'll be arriving solo.

for those bringing their own kayak - instructions from Louie. You can paddle over to meet us at the rental place. Don't worry about RSVP & deposit - that is only for the renters
They can put in at the boat launch right at Tim Fish but then have to go park their car leaving their boat unattended. Otherwise put in on the east side. There is a paid lot right off lake street and a sandy beach area not far from the rental place. You can see the parking lot from rental along the east shore line there.

Hey, I tried to register and pay $5 for two people, but PayPal won't process the payment. So, I'm planning to bring my own tandem. If the $10 is still needed, that's not a problem.

of course...it's not complicated, but you may tire paddling all by yourself the whole time though. I recommend a double kayak or a canoe so you have a partner

      June 29, 2013

  • Kristina

I would like a single kayak.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
