REI - Winter Trails Day Event

Description: Get outside to celebrate and enjoy winter! Saturday, January 11th REI experts, Fort Snelling State Park and local outdoor organizations will provide free activities that show how fun winter can be. Activities include: snowshoeing, cross country skiing, skijoring, geocaching, naturalist guided hikes, learn traditional ice harvesting, play a snow snakes game, winter camping info, learn to build a quinzee and much more! Equipment is provided. We'll provide hot cocoa and a big bonfire to warm you up. Even if there isn't much snow we'll still have lots of fun outdoor activities. Bring the family out to celebrate winter in Minnesota!

The event is free, but State Park vehicle permit fees still apply - $5 day permit, $25 annual permit.

You can come at any time during the hours of 11am to 4pm. We will meet inside the shelter at 11:30am for hot cocoa.

For those interested we'll do a snowshoe hike at 1pm. You can check that event out by clicking HERE.

The REI event is like an Outdoor Open House - they will have different types of equipment for you to try and demonstrations. Good intro to all the different things you can do in the winter, but not a lot devoted to one activity. At 1, Sue will be leading a longer snowshoe hike around the park. This is separate from the REI activities so if you need snowshoes for that you may need to rent from the park

I may come, but I will need to rent snowshoes. It would be great if the location rents the equipment.

Helo Camille. I believe snowshoe rental is free that day and there is a 1:00 lesson you can sign up for if I read this right. Specifically for snowshoeing. RSVP is right after Winter Trails event day sign up.
