Ice Skating at Centennial Lakes

Centennial Lakes Park features a 10-acre lake that is groomed daily during the winter for ice skating. Spread out over three main ponds connected by narrow, meandering canals, the rink gives skaters a unique skating experience reminiscent of a Currier & Ives setting from bygone days.

Complementing the rink is a cozy, rink-side warming house, complete with indoor and outdoor fireplaces, restrooms, concessions and skate rental. Concession items include hot chocolate, pop, popcorn, hot dogs, chips and candy.

Skate rental is available for $6 per pair, with sizes ranging from children's Size 8 up to adult Size 13. Ice sleds may also be rented for $7 per hour. A photo identification must be given as a deposit for all rentals. There is no admission charge for skating.

Had a great time skating. It was chilly but when I started to skate it wasn't bad at all! Beautiful setting. Thanks for organizing!

I tore something in my foot last week, so I thought maybe skating would be a bad choice. I'm excited to make the next one as long as I'm healed up by then!

A little cold for some, but the hardy ones showed up!

Nice to meet a few of you even though I was so late. I am game for skating any day! What a great place.

We'll do it again, maybe a couple more times. I'll even put the skates on.

Perfect day, no wind, no crowds, beautiful lights below the rising moon

    Where do you park?[masked]

Right on Sue! Glad you gave the go-ahead. Hey, uust a thought. I don't think anyone signed up presuming that the weather was going to change or had to be a certain temp to accommodate skating. It's not like there is a wind or blizzard warning. For those of us familiar with the midwest, we've got high-tech clothes these days that keep us way warmer than the bulky white long underwear, thick non-wicking wool and layers of bulk we used to wear as kids as we braved hrs playing outside in the winters regardless of the cold. As you noted, one can always take refuge in the warming house. I'm so looking forward to it...I don't care what the temp is! Bravo to our OSL members who relish winter activities! See you there!

I am not going to be able to make it either.

I'm probably going to be a no-show this time, seeing as it's currently 0 degrees with a breeze. If this event gets posted again and the weather cooperates, I'm in.

  • Lisa

We were looking so forward to this event, but it is a bit too cold for us. Sue, I hope you post this event again! We look forward to meeting everyone another time. If you all decide to go today, have fun and be safe!

I did something to my back so I won't be able to skate but I'll show up and hang by the fire too. It's a beautiful spot and very festive this time of year! See you tomorrow!

I look positively ridiculous trying to ice skate. True story!

I don't skate, but I'm thinking I'll show up just to hang out by the fire. :-)

This is my first meet up event so I'm looking forward to checking out out and meet some great people!

Just listened to the weather on the 6pm news and the high on Sunday is going to be around 24, so we're going to keep it for Sunday. We can always go another time and make it during the day. So NO change in date or time. See you all on Sunday, and I'd better start baking some Christmas cookies to share. Don't forget that if anyone wants to do a cookie exchange, bring a dozen cookies and we'll mix and match.

I'm fine with a change. If it's below 15 deg I may have to rethink my RSVP.

It's MN if we wait for warmer weather, it could be spring. I thought this group was for snow lovers.

I am good with an earlier time

    December 12, 2013

  • Lisa

Perhaps leave this date for those who want to go and schedule another one later and hope for warmer weather then.

    2 · December 12, 2013

I heard that Minnesotans were used to the cold. I also thought with the warming house this was a perfect venue for a quick warmup if one got too cold. I would skate BOTH weekends!

    3 · December 12, 2013

  • Lisa

If changing to 12/22, Vikings play at noon. I would assume 5 p.m. for skating. Future forecast for that weekend is a high of 4 degrees. Not looking any warmer :(

    December 12, 2013

  • Sue

How many people would be set if we changed the date, yet again, but to a hopefully warmer one and earlier in the day? Sunday's forecast is suppose to be cold again and by going at 5pm, (because some want to watch a football game) the sun won't be shining. If people would weigh in with their thoughts I'd appreciate it. We'd probably change to the following Sunday @ 1 or 5pm.

    December 12, 2013

  • Heidi

Sorry I can't make it. Hope to soon though.

    December 11, 2013

  • Judy M

I will be late now that the date changed

    December 10, 2013

  • Sue

We are going to have to change the date of this event, as it looks like the skating isn't going to open until December 13th.

    December 4, 2013

    • Judy M

What date was the event changed to?

      December 9, 2013

    • Lee A.

      this is the changed date

Extra points for the most festive skating outfit. Santa hats & twinkling lights encouraged. There are places nearby for a post skate snack and warm beverage also
