Kayak the Kinni

**VERY IMPORTANT!!  You must make your own reservation! That includes those who have the GROUPON VOUCHER. There is no longer a $10 deposit to hold your spot, as you'll be handling your own reservation. This should hopefully make things easier for me and the outfitter. If the outfitter can't accommodate you he will let you know.

The reservations are handled through the Kinni Kayak website at http://www.kinnikayak.com/html/book.html

Lower Canyon

The Lower Canyon Trip is the most scenic and beautiful trip. Only 30 minutes from the Twin Cities it is amazing that you can get away to a place that looks like it belongs in colorado. There are no houses to be seen along this 8 mile trip. This section of Kinni is full of scenery and wildlife. Enjoy the 3.5 hour trip!

Cost: $60 per kayak and includes kayak, paddle, life jacket, instruction and return transportation from the take out spot back to the park. (This is an increase because of rising fuel costs over the years. After 6 years of keeping prices the same the increased cost of doing business forced the increase in price.)

If you only need to have shuttle service back to the park that cost is $20.

**If you have your own kayak you don't need to RSVP, just let me know if you want to attend and if you need to do the shuttle service.**

Yes, thanks Sue for hosting, and
Thank You Steve for the lift back to "A".
What a wonderful trip, and great group of people. Canada Geese, Deer, Cedar Waxwings, Hawk, Hummingbird, Spider, Springs and moss/water chandeliers, beautiful.
Could have spent all of the day light hours here.
The "Kinni" was a great place to get some experience, and develop Kayaking skills.
Thanks "K"urt for the BBQ, and taking me out on your sailboat on the St Croix.
Looks Like Meetup shut off the Rate this meet up feature, was expecting to leave a comment there.
    **** Four stars!!!

Would anyone without a kayak like to carpool from the Sunray Shopping Center ( 94 and McNight ) ?

    August 4

    • Tom

Steve, I will ride with you. Should we meet at Sunray at 9:30 and leave about 9:45 ? It looks like a little over a half hour drive.

I just did a google search for Kurts house for the after event BBQ, and hanging out on the St Croix River. Google maps works best for this address.

I will still be there as the possibility is not till afternoon, at least that's according to the weather app on my phone

Will there be enough room for us all to park at the starting point - for those of us with our own gear & Steve our shuttle man?

    August 9

    • Sue

Mary, there is parking by the tennis courts and street parking

      August 9

  • Shady S.

What is the location of the put in. I clicked on the google map link but that does not seem accurate?

    August 9

    • Sue

Use the Glen Park address posted. It is a park where we meet & then carry the kayaks down to the river.

      August 9

  • Steve

Patrick if you have your own boat you do not need to RSVP, there is a shuttle going on so that will not be an issue. Below a few comments are the location of the put in and take out, just be at the put in at 10:30. The river is a class one with few if any hazards except for shallow water and hitting rocks. There is a lengthy portage to get in and a steep portage out but pretty typical of any river.

I have a kayak trailer that holds 9 kayaks and gear. My truck will shuttle 9 people so if we want to shuttle I can bring this. Please let me know if you are interested.

That's sounds better than bringing a trailer. Good Idea if you two can come on Sunday instead?

Steve, do you still have room on your trailer?

I am going, and will be using "K"'s second set of equipment. A ride on Steve's Kayak express would be nice.

  • Steve

I have only done this trip once but we put in at Glen Park right below Lake Luise and we take out at the Kinnickinnic State Park where County Rd F crosses the river. I printed out the map so I know where we are going and will recognize the take out when I see it.

    August 7

Hey Steve, do you have an idea where you'd like to take out?

We have 10 kayaks set aside for our group. Who besides myself, Tom B, Diane S need a kayak?

    August 4

    • Dan

Hi Sue, I have not yet made my reservation. Is there a way for me to make my res and tie it to the group?

      August 7

    • Dan

The reservations guy at Kinni Kayak suggested that I speak to you to see if one of the 10 are available. If yes, then I will just settle up with him on Sunday.

Just saw that it cost $60 to rent a kayak for 3.5 hours. I'm going to have to cancel. Cannon Falls was $25 which was reasonable. Sorry. I should have read the full description to start with.

have my own kayak. I can add another
kayak onto the back of my truck if
    someone needs shuttle service. Thx.

I will take my name off RSVP but I am coming with a trailer and we will shuttle anyone who needs its. In the case that we can't get all the boats and people in one trip I will make a second as the shuttle is not that far but I think we will be able to get a lot of boats on as needed I just have never needed more than 9 boats.

    August 4

    • Mary H.

Super, I hope I'm 1 of 9 on 1st or 2nd shuttle. Thanks for doing this. Since I just received a text saying the Kinni is full this weekend. Mare.

This is an invitation to anyone who would like to join me at my beach Cabin on the Croix afterwards. It is south of Hudson on the St. Croix, about 15 minutes from the Kinni, and probably mostly on your way home. I have a gas grille and such so bring whatever food/drink you want to eat; you can continue kayaking on the river. No need to RSVP, just join me if the weather is nice.

I will be bringing my kayak trailer and truck so I can shuttle 9 people and boats, more in a real crisis. I also have all the straps to tie the boats down and the trailer has a gear storage holder for life jackets etc. I will be at the put in and Tyler has agreed to do the shuttle with me so we are set. We'll take the trailer to the takeout and I will get a ride back with Tyler. I kind of remember where the take out is.

    • Shady S.

Steve, I would like to hitch a ride on your trailer. Thx!

Are helmets recommended on the Kinni?

    July 18

    • Sue

Helmets aren't required, but it never hurts to bring one if you have one & it makes one feel safer for a more enjoyable time.

      July 20

  • Heather R.

This sounds like fun but I've never kayaked before...will there be any sections where the water has a class over 1? Or is it all smooth?

    July 19

    • Sue

Heather, the first time I ever kayaked was on the Kinni. I was a nervous wreck but loved it. The river is narrow & shallow in many spots, if we haven't had rain. There are a few sections that might be a class 2. However, they are in short sections & it's a blast.
