Full Moon Hike/Snowshoe & Bonfire

  • Dec 10, 2011 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

A full moon is suppose to happen on this night starting at 2:36pm. Of course it'll still be light out, but that's when the full moon is suppose to develop.

We'll hike around the family farm and come back to the farmyard for an old fashioned bonfire. If there is decent snow on the ground we'll snowshoe and if there isn't enough snow we'll hike. This hike will be through some woods, up and down the farmfield and around a small lake. With a full moon scheduled it'll look awesome on the lake.

I'll have hot chocolate, smores and hot dogs for grillin'.

DIRECTIONS & other housekeeping things: The farm house is the old white two story house at the very, very end of a 1/4 mile long driveway. Please don't park in front of the driveway of the gray house next to a falling down building.

Park on the sides of the driveway and you'll know you are at the right place as there will be a small tree with some xmas light on it.

This isn't the easiest place to find in the dark so if lost call me at[masked] or try the farm phone[masked]-3308. I'll put out some red xmas lights at the end of the driveway on a "Pioneer Seed Corn" sign that reads "Grassylake Farm."

If coming from the Cities go east on Interstate 94 to Hwy 95 and go south to the second 4-way stop, which is 70th street. Take a left and you'll know you're on the right road as there's a sign that reads something like "Afton Alps 2.5 miles." Continue on 70th street and after Oakgreen you'll go down a hill and past 3 driveways on the south side. You'll then go up a hill and 1/2 way up the hill will be a 4th driveway on the south side and that's the driveway you'll need.

If you get to Afton Alps Ski Area or Afton State Park you've gone to far on 70th street. The driveway is on the south side of the road at the top of a hill and right where rows of pine trees on both sides of the road end.

We'll be collecting non-perishable food items for a food shelf in South St Paul called "Neighbors" AND kids pajamas for Louie's Pajama project.

Can't wait for each of Winter's full moons to go back to Sue's wkend farmhouse for snowshoeing & bonfire.... a little farther away from the tree. We can each bring 5 logs + food to share. January 7th is almost a full moon. And as always...... IT'S ALL ABOUT SUE! Thanks for the fun.

What fun!! And we will have stories to tell about how we burnt Sue's tree! Thank you Sue for hosting us!!!

I drove for an hour and then couldn't find it. You can't read the addresses on any of the places on 70th street, so it was impossible to locate based on the address alone. But I guess it's my fault, somehow I missed the rest of the directions given on the site.

Fun night overall! I hope we can come back and do more hiking and/or snowshoeing this winter. Even without a full moon! Just close to it would work, since the next 3 months full moons fall during the week.

Change of plans for me. I'll be collecting food donations for VEAP (food shelf serving Bloomington, Richfield, Edina) at the "Tree of Lights" Saturday night. I was really looking forward to the hike but I'm a huge supporter of VEAP!

There are plenty of sticks laying around to use as weiner sticks. Also, I've updated the info with directions and phone numbers. I did forget to add that if anyone wants to do a xmas cookie exchange I'll have some cookies bakes. Just bring a dozen cookies and your own container so you can take your goodies home.

I can drive (got 3 spots to fill) or catch a ride going thru 694 or 494 & will pitch-in for gas. Looks like over an hour drive from here (Brooklyn Park) and would like a co-pilot for the directions. Malibu rum will be in my SUV for the hot chocolate later. Contact me [masked]

Oh, I was going to be driving so I thought I'd pick Doreen up. I don't need a ride. I realize now I wasn't that specific. I think it would be easier for me to pick up Doreen than for her to get to me or for me to park downtown. No worries. Doreen, give me a shout if you want a ride from Downtown.

Joey, it is a huge pile of brush that needs to get burned. For those on the waiting list there is an automatic wait list. Also, updating one's RSVP I.E. you can't attend will help get people off the waiting list. Also, because this is a night (and because there are a lot of kittens) I am asking that no one bring their dog/s.

Hey Joey, have you seen those huge piles of brush and trees in the middle of a farm filed? That's how they do it in the country--gigantic bonfire!

    December 4, 2011

  • Joey F.

I'm just curious how big of a bonfire you will need to keep 86+ people warm.

    December 3, 2011

SUE: How can us 28 on the waiting list join the fun? Bring you chocolate or Bit-O-Honey? Buy you a pony? A winning lottery ticket? Buy you a new SUV?........ hopefully only Bit-O-Honey. ;-D
