2012 - Twin Cities Skyline Hike

Come along on a local Twin Cities Hike with a twist! Join me and other OSLers on a Hyland Park Reserve Ski lift ride high atop Mt Gilboa overlooking Richardson Nature Center and Normandale Lake. Enjoy the remaining colors of Fall in the Twin Cities as we view the City Skyline. Bring your camera !!

Get a first hand look at what Twin Cities Ski Jumpers see - All before the first snowflakes fall !! There will be activities at the top such as Telescopes, BBQ, etc After the ride we'll choose from any of the 18 miles of Park Trails, and head off as a group. We'll hike for 2-3 hours and likely see a sunset.

Join me and other OSLers on a Hyland Park hike starting high atop Mt Gilboa!

Enjoy the colors of Fall in the Twin Cities as we view the City Skyline.   Bring your camera !!

We'll loop around the East side of the Park and go deep into the woods passing through a section of native Minnesota Grasslands.  Passing Richardson Nature Center, we'll continue to stop-n-go as we admire the beauty of this park.

Looping Hyland Lake we'll start to head back watching the sun start to set.

The hike for 3 hours +/- and likely finish at or just into sunset.

Though We've hit a streak of just beautiful weather each year -- This meetup will be weather dependent and emphasis will be placed on Park officials canceling the Ski Lift Ride. If weather dictates a cancellation, I will cancel it on the calendar and also email the "YES" and "MAYBE" RSVPs.

Please be considerate and change your RSVP if your plans change prior to the Hike. This way someone else can take your place. If you RSVP "YES," we will be looking for you at the start. If you're not going to make it, please change your RSVP accordingly.   Thank You!!

DIRECTIONS:

Hwy 100 South / South of 494 - Normandale Blvd to W 84th St.  Turn Right (Go East) continue to Chalet Road (South of 84th St). Turn Left (Go South) continue to Hyland Ski Area Chalet (HSSA).

Look for the BIG Crowd!!

This was a nice group and a nice hike, perfect weather and many colorful trees. Dave does a good job of leading the group and keeping tabs on everyone, and has an endless supply of stories. I enjoyed meeting new faces and look forward to another outing!

Thanks everyone for posting your photos and comments. I'll get the ones I took posted tonight. If you haven't done a rating, give it a whirl - there's room for lots of words or just a few. Remember, when you make a Public Post it tells all a little of what you thought about the meetup And, also tell everyone a little about you as well! ; ))

White tail deer, an eight point buck (or thereabouts), and a fun - upbeat group of hikers to enjoy the colors of Fall right here in our backyard. Good chili, fun chairlift ride, refreshing cool air as well added to the great spirit everyone brought along with them. We hiked just under 6 miles in just over 2 hours - well done All!

There's a reason why we are Outdoor and Snow Lovers! Embrace the Season, dress for the occasion, and bring a smile with as you meetup with some new friends and catch up with some you've already met. It's cloudy but we're Not Detriot, it's chilly but we're Not Lake Branson. We are OSLers kicking off the season - Jerry, Parshva, Mark, Maureen - please find me when you arrive!

Hi everyone - looks like we are going to have a great time Saturday. This weekend is turning into the OSL Kickoff with back-to-back hiking events that has a great turnout! My Thanks in advance to ALL of you - can't wait to meet you if its for the first time & catch up if we've been out together before. Some housekeeping: Although 3 Rivers Parks allows dogs on the paved trails, this hike will be on the turf, AND it starts with the Chair-lift ride. So bringing a pup of any size isn't going to work. For anyone who gets a little uneasy hiking as the sun sets, you may want to bring a flash light. Its not required as everyone will have a someone close-by them.

Please remember to bring water. And, so I don't forget --
There is a whole $4 charge to ride the chairlift and it is a 3 rivers Park District Fee. Come early as this event is also open to the public - but they don't hike and so they arrive later :)
