Learning to Sail

Whether you're sailing in the America's Cup or day sailing on the lake, sailing is great fun. The Lake City Yacht Club Basic Sailing instruction uses material from the American Red Cross and the US Sailing Association to prepare the student for the experience of safe sailing in small boats. The class sessions cover sailboats, their sails and rigging, practical sailing techniques, sailing etiquette, safe sailing, boating rules of the road, and basic sailor knots.

Class format will include the classroom and hands-on instruction on a Sunfish sailboat. Minimum age requirement is 16 years old. All students must pass a swimming skills check which includes: treading water for 5 minutes, swim 25 yards, put a life jacket on while in the water, and get out of the water without using a ladder.

This is a two day session and please plan on arriving about an hour early on Saturday, June 16th in order to pass the swimming skills check. Session times are 8:30am to 5:00pm on Saturday, June 16th and 17th.

Please contact Tim Troxel at [masked] or[masked] for more info and questions on signing up.

***We do plan on going sailing on Lake Pepin later in the summer and this class provides one the opportunity to crew on larger boats. People that take the class will be invited for the sailing regatta on June 30th, where they will have the opportunity to sail on bigger ships.

**Cost: $100 and see the registration pay on how to pay.
