Meetup Description: Are you comfortable riding your bike in and around traffic?
With spring almost here Bike Alliance of Minnesota, MnDOT, Hiawatha Bicycling Club and HaveFunBiking.com invite you to this class, with a bike ride on Saturday, April 18. The workshop is geared to help you feel more at ease when riding on the road. Starting with some great bike riding tips the morning session begins with basic bike skills and how you should "Drive Your Bicycle,? just like you would a car. Afterwards, practice what you learned in the class on an organized bike ride to hone your road skills further, a so you feel comfortable riding with traffic.
The classroom session begins at 9:45 a.m., at the Columbia Heights Community Building, at:[masked]th Ave. N.E., in Minneapolis. Here, with a League of American Bicyclist (LAB) certified instructors enjoy a classroom assembly packed full of ideas and suggestions to help you gain a higher comfort level while riding on streets and roads, when trails may not be available.
This one hour course begins with things you should know about your bike; followed by tips on cycling in traffic, changing lanes and road lingo so you feel comfortable navigating the streets. Lab instructors for this classroom session are being furnished by the Bike Alliance of Minnesota.
Following the classroom session, at 11 a.m., take what you have learned and enjoy a ride led by Hiawatha Bicycling Club (HBC). This early season ride will offer those who attend a 10 or an 18+ mile route to practice the important procedures learned earlier.
This event is open to the public at no charge. Bike helmets are required and a parent or supervising adult must accompany minor(s) on ride routes.
