Hello Everyone, I hope you had a terrific Thanksgiving and are now getting yourselves ready to celebrate the holidays! I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas as well as a happy and healthy New Year! The snow is upon us so getting outside to enjoy all the wonderful activities will be easy.
I wanted to let you know that I have stepped-down as Assistant Organizer of this Outdoor and Snow Lovers Meetup Group. I am also stepping-down as Event Organizer. I joined this Meetup Group, like many other people, looking to share the enjoyment of outdoor activities. Upon coming across the name “Outdoor and Snow Lovers” here in Minnesota – it only makes sense. I joined and became an Organizer right away. More than 3 years later, and with very close to 125 events put onto the schedule (that’s almost 1 per week), I am happy with how I helped this Meetup Group. When I joined there were approximately 1000 members, and now there are more than 2500. People join when they see activities planned. I have been doing group stuff well before Meetup.com came along, so it made sense for me to get involved in this.
I want to Thank “Sue the Organizer” for letting me help her Meetup Group. “Sue the Organizer” has three Meetup Groups so her time/energy is divided among all those people and events. What I have found is that I am wanting something different from what is being offered by “Sue the Organizer” and the Outdoor and Snow Lovers Meetup Group. So, there is a likelihood I may start my Meetup Group for the new year. Hopefully, many of you will be interested and join in. The types of activities I planned herein were many: Sing Along; Snowshoe; Yoga; Downhill Skiing; Volleyball; Winter& Summer Bicycling; Camping; Climbing;
Those Doggie walks --
My Skyline hikes(2010, 2011, 2013) –
And, of course --
SCUBA Diving (cause that’s what I do. No kidding – it was one of my first for the group!)
Two people from one of my events (Liz & Steve) actually met for the first time, started dating, and ultimately got married. They found what they wanted (each other) and, it is too bad they left.
There are several ‘returning’ members coming to the Meetup on the schedule for this weekend. I hope there is someone that will step up to volunteer their time – Joe Liebler, Renae O, Marilyn I, Tom, or even one of the New/First Timers -- It is not difficult. It is worth a try. And, It is ALL about having fun, and making friendships.
This Note wouldn’t be complete without me also sending my Thanks to LeeAnn. I wish you all the best, and perhaps we’ll run into each other around the Cities, or on the trails. My account will remain active and so, should you feel so inclined to reach out, by all means have at it. Hopefully, my OSL membership will not change. Cheers! Dave .
