Animal Tracking Adventure!

The wild animals in Maine are masters of survival and camouflage. With the forest floor covered in snow, it allows us a  glimpse into their typically unseen lifestyles. The patterns in the snow reveal their stories. Find out answers to questions like What animal species live in this park? Where do they sleep? What are they eating? And so much more! Don't miss this opportunity to gain some tracking knowledge and get together with a group of people interested in expanding their awareness of what happens in the Maine woods.

I had a great time meeting new people and exploring the snowy winter landscape. We not only tracked animals but also the evolution of the forest, human disturbances (like skidder trails), woodpeckers, and storm damage.

Great morning to be in the woods! We tracked snow shoe hare, grey squirrel, red squirrel, red fox, feral cat, some type of mouse, domestic dogs, and domestic humans. And each other!

I had an excellent time. This adventure fortified me for what otherwise turned out to be a pretty brambly weekend. Thank you!

Any issues with bringing my toddler? I'll keep him off the tracks, and I'd love to start introducing him to wilderness skills...

He'd probably be on my back for most of it.

Just a reminder so you can plan ahead: Please do not bring your dogs. I love dogs and they may be allowed at some future meetups but they tend to have a particular knack for always running through the best tracks! Thanks.

Hey Folks! This meet up is filling up fast so I have expanded it to 12 people plus me (and I may consider taking on more). I'm blessed with many awesome and knowledgable friends to help as assistants if numbers continue to grow.

I will be out of town that weekend, but this group sounds intriguing. Keep me posted.

Looking forward to this. What should I bring?

    January 1, 2014

Glad to have you on board! Warm clothing, extra mittens or gloves, depending on temps, and if the snows are deep and you have snowshoes bring 'em! If you would like to bring a sketch pad or journal and a field guide to further study the tracks then thats great, but you wont need this.

Great idea for an event! I will be in Quebec for winter Carnival on this day, but hopefully I can attend the next outing.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
