We will be combining forces with the folks who run the CSA at Buttermilk Hill Farm in Belgrade, ME! This walk will focus on the wild edible and medicinal plants that grow in and around the farm. Discussion will be around how some of these plants can be utilized and even propagated to potentially be used as part of the CSA. This valuable information can be taken home with you and used in your own backyards. For example:
• "how can we increase the amount of delicious (for us and the monarchs) Milkweed plants growing in our fields?"
• "what are a few plants that can be used as medicinal, edible, AND really good for building soil and mulching in the garden?"
• "How can we incorporate thousand year old techniques to change our way of thinking about gardening, so that the entire landscape can produce food/medicine instead of just a ploughed plot of rows?"
The foundation for answering these questions lies in an intimate knowledge of our own backyards and wilderness surrounding it. Learning the uses of the wild plants growing in these places is only the beginning.
This meetup will be open to CSA members as well. Suggested donation is $5-$10. Thank you.
